Gaming peripherals

I'm looking to get some new gaming gadgets to make me a little more comfortable (and hopefully a bit better) when playing me games.

Things I'm looking for are:

Mouse - currently got an intellimouse explorer v2. It's a bit big and makes hands ache after a while.

Mouse surface - using a plastic job advertising DLJdirect, and I have the wrist scars to prove it.

Microphone headset - got a bundle of microphones that clip onto clothing but they just don't cut it. People tease me in games telling me to take my arse away from the mic :(

And possibly one of those left hand keypad things, if someone thinks they're worthwhile.

I've searched these boards a bit and have found some things like everglide mouse pads, but being the cheap-ass that I am I'd like to be able to buy everything from the same place to save on delivery costs. The regular places that I shop from just don't stock these kind of gaming accessories.

One problem is that I only have 2 USB ports. One would be taken up by the mouse, so I couldn't have a USB Microphone (they exist?) and one of those left hand keybad thingys plugged in at the same time.

Anyway, appreciate any help :)

Mouse: Microsoft Intellimouse v3

Surface: Ratpad

Headset: Plantronics HS1

Thats what i have, but the Headset was faulty so i had to take it back, but the quality was superb from the Earphones / Mic, clear as hell

I got my Mouse / Surface from Overclocking Store and my Headset from PC World

I've got a left hand keypad thing , a belkin n50 and would definetly recommend getting one if you play alot of FPS games. Insight sell them for £25.

Is it really worth getting a mouse surface if you have a optical mouse?

Thanks for the replies mates,

That HS1 model looks a bit pricey to me, but one of the cheaper models look attractive. Sick of buying cheapo microphones then throwing them away so should be an investment.

Think there are still advantages to using a mouse pad. My desk is pretty dirty and normally covered in plates so think the mouse would build up too much gunge having it directly on the top. Also should act as a bit of a cushion although my current mouse pad digs into my wrists just as badly.

Well i paid £35 for the HS1 from PC World in December Last Year, When March came, it was faulty, took back PC World, got a Replacement, 3months down the line again that one was faulty, took back but had to get a refund coz they didnt stock em anymore
But the HS1 is a very very nice Headset.

Also, i think it does matter about having a Mouse Surface for Opti's, ive used plain wood, a shit mouse mat etc, but nothing compares to the RatPad, the mouse just glides across it, well worth £15 (?) only prob with that is tho, the damn Suckers on the bottom are rubbin off because i pushed it too far i think :( but even still its easy to control etc etc

I have the same config, except my Plantronics headset is a dual-branded Microsoft jobbie on a GameVoice thingy.

Ratpadz are the best pads I've seen - I tried loads different ones out at LAN parties before buying one. Its good for general work as well as gaming

Scarey, I have the same, except I have a dodgy cheap mic strapped to my monitor with a flexible wire, sounds clear, and lets me use decent headphones.

I don't really like those left-hand pads, not enough buttons on them. Try playing Operation Flashpoint with one of those.

I can recommend a Mouse Bungie. Someone onthis forum recommended one to me months ago, and its well worth getting.

Hmm, depending on how good your ears are, I'd recommend the best headphones you can actually get (if your soundcard is decent), when using my top notch ear plugs (you REALLY don't want to know how much) I get 10/15 frags extra per hour of play, it makes that much difference

I've ordered one of those ratpads seeing as they seem pretty popular.

For the headset I decided to go for the plantronics LS1 (the same one that's included with the MS sidewinder gamevoice apparently).

I can tell that I've inherited my dad's stingyness. Every time I pull my credit card out my wallet I start to feel all giddy and nervous.

Think I will stick with the v2 that I have now until it wears out, then I'll upgrade. And I'll see how I get along without the gamepad jobby - I'm all spent out for the day :)

Cheers for the advice.

wearing ear plugs with headphones:confused:

i had ms intellimouse (actually had 2) :) now I have a intellimouse explorer v3 :) it seemed big & flat at first but I can browse much longer now as before my fingers got cramp because you put your fingers further foward over the mouse.

I've always liked the idea of keyboard replacing pads for fps games, but have never really seen one I really like.

This one looks about the closest I have seen. Enough buttons for you Itcheh? :)

£45 though is quite steep, I'd want to try it before I parted with that much cash.
