100% free and legal!

All you have to do is fill out some form for gamespy and you get to download ground control free. seems like this offer may have been around for a while but I only recently found out about it :)

If you havent played ground control but like real time strategy this game is a must, I loved the game, had it for years but let a friend borrow it a few months back and havent heard from him since :) cba to phone him up just to get the game back so this offer is ideal for me.

Graphics are pretty nice considering its an old game, gameplay is superb though, just cant get enough of this game, both online and offline its just a great RTS title, so if you want it, there it is!

Just thought I'd let you all know :)

Its a (retro) full 3D futuristic tactical RTS, heavily dependant on lines of sight and tactical management, rather than large scale strategics.

It has no resource management at all, you start off by choosing units, you can configure the units a fair bit, however once you start the game you cannot change these, you can only call them down via dropship to the battlefield.

Its very different from the games you listed, unlike in the AoE/DoW games where resource gathering and unit upgrades are important this game focuses on the combat itself, as I said the game places the emphasis on lines of sight and tactical micromanagement, using the terrain is also very important - higher spots mean better lines of sight etc etc.

You have to make the most of your units - using combinations of different infantry/armoured/aircraft/artillery units.

The single player is (sadly) lacking a skirmish mode, so theres only the campaign and then multiplayer. That said its definately worth the download just to play the game if you havent already, its a real classic.

I'm not that great at reviewing games though, I tend to find it hard to put what I think into words :) best just to say that if you havent played this game, but like the idea of a "more realistic" C&C style game without the resource management then I'd say its definately worth getting it, especially as its free :)

Yea, hated the second one, cant believe they screwed it up so much.

I mean, give the project to anyone else and at worst they'd have made a clone of the first one with a few new features tacked on the side. At best they could've made something to rival Generals and could've set up a nice little RTS series.

The way GC2 turned out its almost like they sat around wondering how they could much they could screw the game up and make it as unbelievebly boring and unenjoyable as possible.

Hate it when that happens, its like EA was somehow involved in the development of the second one or something :)
