GamesLink K-Lines

Hello ppl,

as you may or may not know, the central IRC provider for Unreal Tournament, GamesLink has k-lined [banned] several large networks from their servers.
The net result of this is that many people can no longer chat through the built-in irc-client functionality of UT [or external client] and that the bad guys have gotten away [as usuall].

Since Gameslink refuses to communicate in any way, a protest action called 'Gamers Against GamesLink' has come to pass started by myself and some of my friends from #uthelp [that we no longer can connect to]. We intend to send a petition to Epic asking them to have GamesLink released from their position of central IRC provider for Unreal Tournament.

A website has been created here: http://get.to/gag and we have setup IRC chatrooms in irc.uk.quakenet.eu.org [6667] called #utgames and #uthelp.
We would love to see you there, but we especially ask your support by way of signing the petition at http://get.to/gag.

uIRC is utter shite.

Their K-lining an entire isp range is testament to this, thx bye.

Why don't you just set UT IRC to use quakenet ?

Quakenets a hell of a lot better than Gameslink, and I suspect it's a lot larger than Gameslink too...

The mainstream European UT scene is all on Quakenet you'll find.

yus, because thankfully until now all the american peons you'd expect haven't really been on Quakenet because its been a european network (though now there is a US server :| )

The amount of hassle I've (and others have) had because the uIRC client appears to not show topics (which is a bloody nuisence in leagues) is ridiculous.

Really, Gameslink is the newbie irc server. People go on it at the beginning to try it out. people start to set up clans on there too...

but in UT everyone uses quakenet (irc.barrysworld.com for example) and people move from gameslink to here all the time.

Theres a lot better players there and no doubt more grown up. In some cases anyway.. /me points at {S}Tella

it seems to be a success. after many postings and a veritable barrage of prose, gameslink have kindly lifted the glines, and the formerly banned networks have been placed 'on probation'
