I may be one of the few people to purposefully choose an 'ugly' avatar. This was for Eve Online: The Second Genesis. It seemed like EVERYONE was either a really buff bloke or an oh-so-pretty woman. So I decided to be A Grumpy Old Man (Larger, much larger in fact, image here).

I was just thinking how great computer games are for people with disorders like that kid in the article with muscular dystrophy. Roll on televised gaming competitions so even gamers have a chance of becoming celebritys.

I guess instead of whining about people with mad skills saying how all they do is play games all day, I'll shut up because it might actually be that they can't do anything else.

At the time I made mine, the first day of retail (having also played the last 10 days of open beta), they did *seem* to all be the aforementioned buff men or oh-so-pretty women. I made no statement about the state of things now, in fact I made no absolute statement at all, only expressing my perception at the time. You get the prize for most useless contribution to this thread I think.

Now back to the actual thread. I also thought it was great that the kid with the medical problems could be whoever he wanted in the game without people judging.
