Game of the Year 2010

only a few days to go till 2011, what's been everyone's game of the year?

I've been having a think today, and looking at what I've been playing, and, for me, just because its so rare to play something that tries to do it a little different these days it's got to be Amnesia - Dark Descent.

It's got flaws (what game hasnt) but it's genuinely scary in some places, just layering atmosphere and sounds together so well and letting the players imagination do the rest. Really enjoyed playing it.

Honorable mention to Minecraft, which costs virtually nothing, has entertained me, and has also got my 12 year old daughter building and planning all sorts of crazy stuff and my 8 yr old son interested in game design (he was amazed that 1 person could put something like Minecraft together and is constantly asking me to show him how to program different things now......)

Can't really think of any big software house titles that have caught my attention as much as the two above.....



Whats stood out for everyone else?

StarCraft II because I'm an RTS nerd and have been waiting for a new RTS game of this style to play for ages.

Nothing has really grabbed me in 2010, not a massive gamer though it has to be said.

Red Dead Redemption was head and shoulders above any other game of 2010.

i want to say call of duty but wasnt all it was cracked up to be great game not the best tho.

for me i would echo Red dead loved the game

Not a lot really, lots of generic console shooters a few paint by numbers rpgs, anything decent seems to have been riddled with bugs.

I am going to vote for Machinarium, though it may have come out before 2010.

Bioshock 2 was pretty good, although I don't think it carried the same weight as its predecessor.

Mass Effect 2

Demon Souls was this year for Europe.

This year I've bought loads of games (mostly fps in fairness) and now I find after a 4 month break I'm playing CSS again ....

Got to be Amnesia for me also.No game has ever made me not want to play because of fear.Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light was much fun too.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction - great reboot of the franchise.
Alan Wake - for being different.

Just purchased Amnesia through steam on your say so! I liked the penumbra games, didn't realise they had bought out another one although I think I'm going to need a new speaker setup before I play...

As for the best game, I really don't know what came out when so I'll pick F1 2010 because the year is in the title. I've been waiting for a good f1 game for years, it's the first time I've used a brilliant steering wheel for racing and it's stupidly addictive. I already disagree with myself about it being the best of 2010 due to the number of bugs but once you've said something you can't unsay it... nope, no delete key here.

Batman came out in August 2009. I'll throw an outlier out though, and say Vanquish, we need more over the top silly shooters like that.

Hmmm - have to get back to you. I've played lots of decent games but not one leaps to mind as outstanding.

Super Street Fighter 4 should be well up there but there must have been something better :/
