GAME.NET News
The only big bit of GAME.NET news this week surrounds the recently released Elite Force II. As you will have read in previous Newsletters we (along with many other server providers) have had quite a few problems with the retail version of this game but, following the release of a beta server patch, we have been able to get some servers up and running for you to use:

GAME.NET Preview - Elite Force II (1) 213.221.178.80:29253
That's right, Bookable support is also in place making us the only place in the UK where you can book your own server for this particular game. Hopefully the abundance of servers makes up for the delay in supporting this game, please note that if you choose to use the GAMEBar to launch into these servers then you must also download & install the 3 MB beta patch here otherwise it will not work. To celebrate the support for the game we will be changing the regular Monday night organised event over to an EF2 Subbies game, drop by #game.stvef from 7.30pm onwards for further details.

Files and Patches
A lighter week as far as trailers go with just the three worth mentioning, the first being some in-game footage from the upcoming Lord of the Rings - Return of the King, this 16 MB movie looks fairly decent although perhaps isn't as impressive as the first trailer which came out shortly after E3 finished, nevertheless if you are a fan of the trilogy then you can grab it here and have a look for yourself. It'll be a while before you get your hands on the full game with it likely to be released around the time the movie hits the multiplexes in December, long before then Heaven and Hell will be on the shelves and a 38 MB movie showcasing actual game footage (along with movie sequences) is available to download here, this God / Satan / Religion sim looks quite unique and could become a cult hit. Taking it up a notch the complete E3 trailer for Full Spectrum Warrior, an ultra realistic military simulation, has found its way onto our FTP, at 505 MB it is one of the larger trailers you are likely to find but the game promises to be a bit special so might well be worth having a look at, grab it here but take into consideration that even on a 1MB cable connect it will take you a good while to download it.
We may be short on trailers this week but I've got plenty of demos for you to have a look at, starting off with a 160 MB Single & Multiplayer demo for the upcoming Tron 2.0. Having had a look myself this is one of the better demos to have come out recently with a light-cycle mode for single players, whilst the multiplayer option supports that and a unique disc based game which has to be seen to be believed, if you fancy a look then grab it here from our FTP. Competing with Tron 2.0 for title of "retro-film adaptation of the year" will be The Great Escape, the staple of Christmas TV coming to life on the PC towards the end of next month in a game which combines various genre types and brings them under the "Stealth Action" tag, you can judge for yourself just how well it has been done by grabbing the 240 MB demo here. Rivalling The Great Escape for size is the demo of Castles and Catapults, this 206 MB file can be downloaded here and gives you a taste for what to expect from the RTS game when it is released later this year.
Further demos to mention include a 48 MB rolling one for colourful 3rd person adventure game The Westerner (grab it here), whilst on a completely different note you could try the 121 MB demo for Fire Chief, this game released later this month puts you in the role of (surprisingly) a Fire Chief with you having to deal with a variety of scenarios, using a team of specialists and high-performance vehicles. The screenies I have seen look pretty detailed, if you fancy having a peak for yourself then grab the demo here. The final file to cover is for motorcycle sim Moto GP 2, the 82 MB demo lets you try a single circuit in both single and multiplayer modes and you can download it here.
Plenty to get through as far as the patches are concerned and I'll start with a couple of updates for BattleField 1942 mods, both we do not currently support but are looking at introducing in the near future. Pirates, as the name suggests, is a mod which changes BF1942 back to a more primitive mode with naval battles galore from a time gone by, still in its early stages it has the potential to become a very good mod indeed and you can grab the 79 MB Version 0.11 here. A more modern mod for BF1942 is Experience World War 2, this realism mod was previously called Section 9 Realism but has changed its name and tidied itself up, the 155 MB base file can be found here but you will also need a further 7.5 MB patch (available here) to play online.
A few files that are perhaps more relevant to our service have been released, starting off with a patch for the popular UT2K3 mod Deathball, although it isn't so much a patch as a completely new version which also includes a Tennis mode for those of you gutted that you no longer have Timmy boy to support at Wimbledon. The 83 MB file can be downloaded here, whilst also of interest to those FPS gamers amongst you will be the new official IGI 2: Covert Strike map called "Winterland", this 29 MB arena can be downloaded here. Other FPS games / mods to receive patches this week include a bug-fix for Quake 3 mod True Combat, the 3 MB patch being downloadable here, whilst futuristic game Chaser has received another patch, this 4 MB one taking it up to Version 1.46 and available to download here. Those of you who read these Newsletters on a weekly basis will know that Chaser has already had two patches since its release, this still leaves it trailing behind the uber-popular yet uber-buggy Championship Manager 4 which had its fourth patch released just the other day, taking the game up to Version 4.07 the 14 MB patch can be downloaded here but, to be brutally honest, it still doesn't bring the game up to the high standards of CM 01/02, even though it has addressed a few of the key issues. Oh and one late release to mention - just out today there is a patch for Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness (see below for more details about this game), the 5 MB file will fix a few minor crash problems and an issue with the FMV sections of the game, download it here if you are getting to grips with Miss Croft.
Special Offers
After a much publicised delay the latest Lara Croft adventure has finally been released, Tomb Raider - The Angel of Darkness sees the large-breasted one bouncing around various European cities in a lush looking new engine as she seeks to prove her innocence and discover the real murderer of her former mentor Von Croy. As someone who hasn't really dipped into the Tomb Raider series in recent games I might give this one a look, you can read an interview with one of the Executive Producers of the game here which covers some of the new aspects of the game that are intended to set it apart from the series it follows.
Expansion packs are big business these days but the lads at the shop site have come up with three bundles to make getting into a certain game a bit cheaper. The three main packs are for Medal of Honor (original game + SpearHead), Battlefield 1942 (original game + Road To Rome) and The Sims (The Sims Deluxe + Sim City 4) and should all save you a fair bit of cash when compared with buying the games involved separately, as far as FPS games go both the Medal of Honor and BF1942 packs come highly recommended, MoH perhaps offering the stronger single player aspect.
