On Thursday 27th March 2003, there will be an organised TFC (Team Fortress Classic) game open to all subscribers. To find out more about TFC, have a look here:
http://www.barrysworld.com/games/teamfortressclassic/
We can offer a friendly atmosphere, and an adminned game to keep things running smoothly and fairly.
If youre a TFC veteran, come and join us. If youre relatively new to TFC but wish to try it, this is the ideal opportunity. GAMEmasters will be around to help you with any problems you may have getting the game up and running or once playing.
Details:
The actual game will begin at 9pm on Thursday night. However, it is recommended that you meet with other participants before this time from 8pm onwards by joining the official chat room for TFC. You can reach this chat room by following this url:
http://play.game.net/webchat.asp?Channel=game.hl
By default you will be put into the main game.net room. However, by clicking the "game.hl" tab at the top of the chat, you will be moved to the correct place.
This is all you need to do to enter the chat. However, For people who wish to use their own IRC client, simply join #game.hl on quakenet.
What you will need
1) GAME.NET Subscription
The server used for this event will require you to have an active GAME.NET subscription. To register with GAME.NET, follow this link:
http://member.game.net/Membership/Subs/SubsStart.asp
2) Halflife patched to the latest version.
Patches often add features to games and are provided free of charge from the creators of the game. To play TFC on GAME.NET, you will need to make sure your Half-life is patched to the latest version. Currently, this is version 1.1.1.0.
To check what version you have, launch Half-life and get to the main menu screen. If you look to the bottom right of this screen, you will see the version of the game, e.g "v46/1.1.1.0".
If it is anything below 1.1.1.0 you will need to download a patch, which can be obtained via GAME.NET from this link:
http://play.game.net/games/download...life/official_patches/client/win32/hl1110.exe
Ok im subscribed and Patched, what now?
The game will take place on server "GAME.NET - Team Fortress Classic (2)" (213.221.174.35:27016).
Advanced users using their own server browsing tool only need to ensure they are logged in to GAME.NET and everything should go fine.
If this means nothing to you, do not worry, for there are some instructions below that describe how to join the game using the game.net website.
Firstly you will need to download a piece of software called the GAMEBar, available from:
http://play.game.net/apps/gamebar/default.asp
Download this application, read and understand the agreement that appears, and install it. It will add a small "bar" to your Internet Explorer, and this is what enables you to launch any game from the GAME.NET website.
Next, go to:
http://play.game.net/serverlist.asp?Type=2
If you are logged on, this will display every Halflife server that is currently running at GAME.NET. Scroll through the list until you find, "GAME.NET - Team Fortress Classic (2) - Newbie - New Maps [2 HWG]" and click on it. Scroll back up to the top of the page, and click "Launch game". If the GAMEBar is installed, the game will now automatically launch itself and youre on your way!
Please remember the recommendation of meeting beforehand in the chat room however. As well as getting to know your fellow players before the battle, youll also be able to ask for help if you run into any problems getting the game to run.
If you have any questions feel free to ask them here. If anyone notices anything important i have missed out, please let me know.
I look forward to seeing you there!
