A friend of mine has just bought hlife with cs in, but he cant play. When he clicks to join a game, it says "cant join game with different protocol version" . Does this mean he needs the 1.3 patch?

you need the 1.3 Patch anyway to play CS

He needs both the full HL upgrade and the RETAIL version of the full CS upgrade and the CS retail patch (includes stuff they missed out of the patch). All of this stuff is available from the BW downloads area.

I have the HL Generations pack (Half Life, Counterstrike and Op4) but I only install and authenticate the Half Life, then I download the full Halflife 1108 patch and the full Counterstrike 1.3 mod version patch. it works
