Game freezing

My brother just got a brand new computer, XP 2600+, 1024MB DDR, Sapphire Radeon 9600pro. After we installed everything, logged on to DAoC we noticed a little problem, the game/computer freezes after 10-300 seconds. I guess this is a driver problem? Well, I downloaded the latest drivers from ATi and tried running the game. I got the 'render creation failed' message, so I downloaded the latest version of DirectX. Now the 'render creation' thingy, disappeared, but the game still freezes.

Am I using the wrong drivers, or maybe something I need to change in graphics options? Please help :)

Using win2k with the latest updates btw

machine freezing is a classic example of overheating. open the case and get your bother to fan it while u play!

CPU temp = 55°C
the fan I ordered should be able to cool 3200+, and the CPU we have is only 2600+

I've noticed the temperature can vary between monitoring device and how it's positioned. Just coz it's reading 55C it could be anywhere between 45 and 65 in reality. If the sensor is misplaced (happens a lot) then your CPU could be running in excess of 65 and you wouldn't know.

Saying that, my sensor says 91C... :/

I've tried setting graphics to worst etc, not working.. the company that I bought the computer of has told me to flash my BIOS and clear my cmos, so I'll guess I'll do that :p

Had this problem on 2 of my 4 PC's.

Both have Nvidia Cards (GF4 TI-4600 and GF4 TI-4200).

I know with the Nvidia cards they have (im told) an inbuilt auto-cool down function, whereby the GPU turns off for a few cycles when its overheating (which is the lockups)

I used to get the 10-15 second lockups especially in hilly or water (SI) areas. Fixed it by "underclocking" (Of all things) both GFX cards by about 5%. I presume that u could add more cooling to your pc (Case off etc).

I read that this is due to the SI engine coding being buggy (Never had this problem with DAOC classic) and I never get lockups in any other games (AVP2, CS, WC3 etc) on full clock speed.

Hope it helps

There is an issue with DAOC crashing/lagging while using 1024mb ram.

Does the freezes happen with any other game?

Try taking a stick of ram out and testing then :)
