cheers, might do that. Not sure what game to get on launch tho, was thinking resistance? Anyone played it, heard anything aboutit? I think gamtrailers gave it 8.6/10 which is pretty good.

From what I've heard there's no real point in pre-ordering a ps3, as there will almost certainly be freely available on the day of release (there's a bit of a hoo-hah in the gaming press about this at the minute). I expect there will be stock knocking around for a bit, just like everywhere else it's launched in.
I'm avoiding it as it's too fecking expensive, the release game line-up isn't great (no real stand-out games, and the future doesn't look too good either, a lot of the 3rd party games seem to be 360 ports).
There's still no stand-out games to make me want to get a next-gen console, although mass effect and guitar hero with downloadable content may change that.

@ inactionman: I'm not sure about there being free units ‘on the day of release’. My understanding with the US launch is that they deliberately under-supplied to guarantee a sell-out for marketing purposes, but then when the rest of the units were shipped the week after, the reality of demand (or lack thereof) was revealed. I would have thought they'll pull the same game here.

I've been considering getting a PS3 over the last few days since I bought my new TV (37" of goodness 
) mainly just for the blu-ray player, the only reason I can think of for waiting for a UK one as opposed to importing a US one is the 12 months gurantee, you can import one for cheaper the games will be cheaper and the movies are cheaper, not to mention the fact many games/movies will be released sooner in the US.
So anyway to my point why are people going for the UK one is it just the fact you will have a gurantee if it blows up like most 360's do?

You'd have thought so, but over 1 million on launch for PAL territories, with an estimated 220,000 in the UK (about what they had for launch in the US I believe), they probably won't sell out. Especially when you factor in that, following the disappointments with the 360 and wii launches, a lot of enthusiasts have pre-orders at a number of different places to guarantee a ps3 on launch. The most I've heard is someone with 5 pre-orders, but they only want 1 console.
Plus it not being a launch in the run up to xmas won't help! I think that the ebay sellers will be in for a very bad time!

People will buy what they want if it is christmas or not if rich kid wants xx present rich kids mum and dad get the card out.
But then again past experience with selling 360/wii is that most buyers are in the 20-35 range and want the must have gadget.
Consoles are like Mobile Phones really everyone has to have the latest model and consoles are no different.
I'll make a mint.
The PS3 WILL sell out and it will be hard to get hold of one.
I still can't think of why people want one the line up is shit for starters MGS 4 is the PS3's only saviour.
