Sorry ok this just bugs the fuck out of me about how ignorant people are about this.

So many people say meet xx at xx time GMT and dont mean GMT they mean UK time, GMT IS NOT UK TIME.

The only time GMT = uk time is in the winter, in the summer the UK runs BST (British summer time) this is GMT+1, gmt does not change - GMT right now is UKtime -1 hour..


so when people say SIDI RAID AT 2 PM GMT - please know that that means 3PM UK TIME.

If someone says GMT you should always assume they mean UK time.

GMT = Greenwhich in London...surely that means that GMT = BST in summer too? :)

GMT doesn't change due to daylight saving hours, BST does.

But m00 is getting worked up over nothing :)

[GMT] Greenwich Mean Time: Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London

Funny, I don't see now + or - 1 anywhere in our own time. +1 would put us the same as amsterdam etc.

Europeans seem to try very hard ot get their bloody CET times right, and us UKers know what is means, time in UK+1 (which is NOT GMT+1(atm, anyway))

At no point did I say GMT = BST. I just merely statd that GMT is basically BST as well because everyone calls it that. Just because you don't understand what is meant by it, doesn't mean it was right.

m00 is right, people say GMT because it makes it easier for non-brits to work it out. If summit says 20:00GMT, people know its 21:00CET. It's for the minority that would go "wtf is BST?". Guarantee you would get it if you said a raid was goin on at xx:xx BST.

Ease of use but tbh, does it really matter? ;)

What, so M$ is the final arbitar of all time now?

The original poster is right.

The reason this is important is that outside europe ppl don't all follow the same daylight savings scheme as europeans.

So a non-european, who knows his or her local time relative to gmt, but doesn't have the same daylight savings system has to guess what you might mean.

Write UK time, not gmt, it saves a lot of confusion.

just because 100 people think the uk is in gmt right now, does not mean it is.
