Like it, although looks like sour grapes in terms of a straight rip of the DB9 design.

Bear in mind though that Aston and Jag are owned by Ford, so it's maybe intended to be that way.

The current Aston "basic" shape was a rip of the Jag, so it's payback time I guess. I was at the Jag R&D centre when the XK was pre launch and got the story. Apparently some Aston guys saw some development drawings on a wall and a little while later....

What are the chances of them making that then?

Ugleh. Having said that I don't really find Astons particularly nice looking cars either. They're far too flabby.

Quite soon apparently! it was on BBC news today! Cant see it saving them though, too many other cars do the same thing. will be interesting to see how much it goes for.

Hmmm, story was the other way around when I heard it - that it was originally an Aston Martin design 'borrowed' by Jag.

Either way that Jag looks rather nice ;)

Well, heres the thing. Aston Martin, in their entire history, have never made a profit.

TBH I always preferred the styling of the XK8 to that of the DB7, plus the Jag is actually in reach of more people that the Aston. If they price that Jag correctly, I can see lots being sold.

I was stood looking at the first XK at the R&D centre, it was next to a resin/clay mockup of the S type. The Jag guys told me because of the Ford tie in they couldn't argue, and Aston nicked the design.

Either way that is finally a Jag worth owning. Beautiful.

They're scheduled to be profitable this year. The Aston DB7 used a cut down XK8 floorpan (thats why it has a long rear overhang compared to the all-new DB9). Also bear in mind that the DB7's designer (Morray Callum - I think, there's two brothers who both work for the Ford empire) is now head of design at Jag, so its not surprising there's a similarity.

If that's the final design for the new XK8, its better than I expected. The last three Jags (XJ8, X-Type and S-Type) are all fekkin awful looking 'old man's cars'. I don't mind the occasional sixties-pastiche (like the new Mustang) but Jag don't seem to be able to do anything else. I even prefer Bangle-BMWs.

That front bumper is a travesty, it's horrible.

Leave it to the pros, Jag.

The jag badge needs to be on the bonnet.

Without the little bit of metal and the badge its just an escort grille

Stupid? Maybe, it was just an off the cuff remark, like the ones you make sometimes.

I think that Lamborghini are starting to get things right again, the Miura was beautiful but the Countach, though the subject of many of my friends wet dreams 20 years ago, was hideous.

The Gallardo and the Murciélago are both still a bit angular for my taste, but undoubtably fine looking cars.

The Tuscan is fantastic, shame about the build quality. Again TVR design is just fantastic now. I remember the old Tamsins that simply looked like TR7's on steroids, but after the TVR S things started to improve and almost everything they have produced since has looked great.

The M3 CSL is by all acounts a fantastic car, and the ultimate 3 series, I guess it will always suffer for being just a 3 series in a lot of peoples minds.

Of the 3 you mentioned I'd have the TVR for looks, but the BMW for the all round package, no contest.

You'd get a TVR for sound and no other reason imo.
Sexiest engine noise around. As desirable looking as a woman with chicken legs in lycra.
