Can anyone recommend a free/cheap program I can use to design furnitre? I need a new bed and I'm looking at £300+ just for the base, which is bullshit. I figure I can build one for a fraction of the price but I need to design it first.

Cheers.

SketchUp would be my suggestion for free. I've used Autodesk Inventor to design computer chassis before but ahem, it ain't free (or cheap).

My dad made all our bed frames at home when we grew up. Pine wooden frames. They still going now.

I'd ask a friend who's a furniture maker, though, he lives in a shit little town and probably uses Autocad in combination with a stone knife for carving down tree-chunks.

Had a look at Sketchup. Can't use it at all, there's no indication of scale, no measurements and no tutorial I can find.
