I made a post on the Fans Table on VN boards yesterday should be still there (something about "Are there any other US Daoc Boards then these" or something). It pretty much sums up everything wrong with america, as soon as I mentioned I was not american I got flamed.

I was on the receiving end of an american pre-emptive strike, in affect an onslaught of semi-racist abuse, because being from outside the United States they peceived me as threatening world peace and american ideals. Accusing me of producing WMDs (Words of Mass Destruction) that have still of yet to be prove to ever existe. I found myself in Shock and Awe at the blunt words of the american posters. All of a sudden I was Osama Bin Ladens best mate, I know we are poth Arsenal Supporters but that is far as the link goes and I was left hiding in a spider-hole for cover. The whole board was on orange alert and fear gripped the nation as someone other then an american demanded the right to be treated like a real human being.

I exaggerate slightly, but it doesn't detract from the fact, I was attacked for not being European, and then I was seen as the aggressor for defending myself.

I did criticise the VN Board, but lets face it who doesn't, its not just americans that have a monopoly on pointing out VN faults. They are universally recognised as second rate even though they are the offical (or closest to offical) DAoC board. I don't think that not being american should mean I can't air perfectly legitimate views on the habits of the board. Views even held by many US DAoC players. I can see how people can take it badly, but that reflects more upon their own neuroses then anything else.

Well here's my thoughts ( for those that care ), i'm no professor of human behaviour or even a student but here goes.

Humans are Pack animals, it's in our genetic makeup.

Our social structure is just one big jumble of packs ie:
What sports team we support,what sports, where we socialise, with whom, fashion taste, music taste, what class we were in at school, clubs, sexual preference, where we live, what type of pets we have, what cars we drive, what department were in at work, religion ( worst offender of all in my book ), political preference, ethnicity, gender.... and a billion others oh, not forgetting perhaps most importantly of all .... what Realm we play

Our social structure seems built to divide us into different "packs", and it's built into us to be defensive/aggressive/superior/inferior against different packs, sure humans have the abbillity ( believe it or not ) to override base urges but more often than not it's monkey see, monkey do.

Bizarrely humans like to think of them self's as individuals, but part of there individuallity is what packs they choose or belong to.

So is there hope for human civilisation ?, it's sad to say that apart from say ... a Hyper intelligent extra-terrestrial race turning us all into mindcontrolled zombies ... things don't look like there gonna improve soon.

But who knows what the next step of human evolution is ... maybe it won't even be physical, but pyschological and social.

No. The translation from the US EN version to the EU EN version (yes there is some but it's technical changes as opposed to language related ones) are all done by Mythic. We don't translate stuff from english to french/german and back to english, you just wait for us to translate to french/german and then test and bug fix (testing done by us/volunteers, fixing done by Mythic).

That's all, you can now go back to laughing and pointing fingers in fact...

I once met someone who turned around my entire conception of the overriding lack of culture and worldliness of the good 'ol USofA. He was a witty, urbane, educated and downright nice reasonable person. Most other americans I met were either deliberately stupid or just rabid jingoists.

btw the stuff on my VN user signature is a bit of a joke, I wrote it after I heard someone complaining about European DAoC in game, its not serious. So need need to get so offended GoA. We all know it takes ages to get patches done because you want to get them done right, or whatever I don't really care.

And btw it is not soo ridiculous to translate US english into proper English English I have to do it on all my university work. US english is not the same as genuine english, Australia also has its own dictionary and in the west indian nations that speak patwa (or however its spelt) there are offical language courses in schools that teach west indian forms of english. So its not so stupid to think that US patches may need translation for British users.

I'm only writing this because some people were under the impression I was being ignorant when I wasn't and that annoys me a lot <looks at GoA bloke who was missing the point in my post>.

I didn't miss the point at all, in fact the comment about how we patch and the point behind your post actually have nothing to do with one another.
