Occasionally you come across a game that allows you to do silly/humorous things, usually by virtue of being able to modify it but occasionally its like it out of the box (Serious Sam 2, for example, is a very amusing game)
A long while back I customised a version of Quake 2 Lithium so that the rockets were QW speed, the splash effect caused players to ricochet across the screen, cratering often and blasting people into positions they'd never end up in normally (you could rocket someone from the bottom of Q2DM1 to the grenade launcher, for example). It was quite fun to play.
Q3A came out and I wrote this same mod (this time from scratch) and called it "Barrymore" - so called because someone playing the original Q2 version (which ended up being called Barrymore as well) said it was "gay". Again, much hilarity ensued - try playing it on Q3DM17
Comically, and this was unintended, because it was one of the first mods for Q3A, it ended up being mentioned on Stomped, Blues News, Planetquake et al - no one even questioned the name
You can download it here if you want to see what its like.
Anyway, the reason I mention all of this is that usually I get more enjoyment from the quirks and foibles of todays games, by making odd things happen.
Like F1GP4 for example, or maybe even Operation Flashpoint.
Anyone else feel the same?
