Fun class for me?

Having decided that its about time to retire Kaitlyn, I could use some advice on a fun class to play.Guild decided on a friar but after a couple of levels of whack things then heal i got bored.I need a class that has a versatility to keep me interested and is ok at soloing as i don't want to, after 100 odd days playing a cabalist, have to rely on groups all the time.So any suggestions?

armsman from lvl 15 is capable of doing some solo, of course not to fast(downtime after taking down a yellow can be long).

My alt is a scout and i must admit they are kinda fun playing, ok in solo (just need to remember to run after you miss a few shots)

If you want to solo, make a wiz, theurg, merc, arms or something like that.. but if you want something thats really fun, I strongly recomend Minstrel.. they are not the best soloers, but with pets they aren't that bad. Killtasks are a breeze too.

You could always try...

...a minstrel if you've got three arms and don't mind being a bit patient with your soloing :)

...or a Paladin if you like aggro management...

Thanks for the suggestions, but the reason i put this in general was that i've been toying with the idea of starting afresh in a different realm (as ive tried almost all alb classes at one time or another and couldnt quite get to grips with any of them). But im not to up on what other realms classes are like.:)

Played a Healing bard for while, was great fun buffing, healing and twisting the songs, and on occassion whacking some stuff.

Soloing was slightly annoying since I specced for a more group friendly bard, but still it was a laugh

in that case...

You might like a Warden on Hibernia...

Light tank, heals and rezzes, PBT, pretty much all-rounder...

On Mid Spiritmasters are probably the best soloers and have a variety of tools at their disposal from PBAOE/AOE Mezz to PBAOE Damage - amazing debuffs - life transfers & life drains - great pets - even a res if you spec 23 Summoning.

Cave spec shammies are ok soloer's too if u fancy a healer type for more of a change? Plus pretty easy to get a group when opportunity arises.

Defensive spec warriors/ Berserkers are ok soloers from the tanks (especially if you load up on potions).

Maybe even try a Thane once the timer comes off of their dd - like a pre-nerf Smite cleric with weapon styles :)

A theurgist might be a good choice for you (in Alb) they can solo when needed (although not greatly in the higher levels) they are also welcome in groups if they are earth specc'd (for when you feel like grouping). If you wait for SI i think a Necro would suit your playing style. Pet class, offensive spells, much like a cabalist.

Midgard is reputed to have some fairly versatile classes because we have the least classes, our functions are much more concentrated amongst us. Skalds are arguably the most versatile melee class that there is, if you're tired of wearing cloth.

I played in Albion on the US Server many moons ago at the start of retail, as a cabalist called 'Mendoza', while everyone around me was screaming that the class was terrible. Controlling a pet, casting offensive spells and occasionally healing was a great challenge and made me seem versatile, though. Once you've played a class that requires a lot of attention it's difficult to play simple smacking classes.

I've not ever tried Hibernia, though, but from initial reading into their classes, their classes seem to offer the most versatility out of them all. I've also heard their community on Prydwen is the most enjoyable, and the most in need of new players. Can we get an elf or firbolg onto the podium please to confirm?

Simple smacking classes do require some attention, if you want to be good at it. You have to time your styles right, you have to watch out for your groupmates, you have to pick targets well, manage agro as needed, don't break mez, etc.

That said, most fighter classes are quite good at soloing, provided you have top-notch equipment (which is expensive, but never a problem if you can twink, hence armsman or paladin may be an idea for you). If you like Hibernia, why not try a champion? Nice fighting power and some flashy magic bumbum.

<counts the times her "simple smacking skills" kept the evil monsters from ravishing the cloakless healer>

ps : after giving it a shot, healer really is one of the hardest classes to play in the entire game

Reading the VN boards a Healer might be a good class for you (midgard seer). Its like a cleric combined with a Sorc, i think i might try one myself :D

I have a Lv.42 mincer and I had 'no' trouble soloing, infact I could solo in some places faster then the casters. In RvR they are fun for some but not for me, I'd rather be a skald in RvR, PvE thou is fun indeed :)
at the end of it all you just gotta try things out and see what you like, remember the game isnt going to go away so take ur time :)

I can recommend Healer as a fun and challenging class to play. Aside from buffing (which is a chore) you're going to be pretty active throughout most combat - with crowd control duties at the start and healing towards the end. You need to make the right tactical decisions at the right times. It's not for everyone, but if you fancy trying a support class then Healer is one of the best.

Healers are always wanted in groups of all kinds, so if you enjoy grouping that's a big plus.

And if you want to solo you can try an Aug spec. It's not the fastest soloing in the world (each fight can take a long time), but it's pretty effective and has little down-time.

You might have fun with a nature/regrowth druid.

You can be primary healer in a group, but you also get a pet and a dot and a nice self damage add to help with soloing in the nature line (as well as scale mail), so you can be a good fighter too.

And my druid hasn't been beaten in a duel yet by an even con opponent ;)

Mentalists are a fun class to play, the 'Swiss army knife' of DAOC. Wish it was possible to swap characters 'cos I would love a level 50 cabalist, just can't be arsed with the utter pain of levelling all that way again.

I'd heartily recommend a reasonably high rejuv specced friar for a good fun character. Not necessarily as uber as a full battle spec, but I personally prefer the extra dimension having high rejuv gives you. I'm admittedly only level 24, but I can solo orange con weak-to-crush mobs with no problem, very fast, and with little downtime. I have a 215 hp guaranteed big heal which everyone I group with loves and I can keep people alive in the bg's at least very easily, with running out of power being more of a problem than keeping up with the damage on tanks :)

Minstrels have to be the most diverse alb class, but can be frustrating at times, with many bugs regarding our charm, but I still love my minnie. He is fun to solo, but it's annoying that the pet takes so much of the xp away from a kill. Grouping was tough with every caster doign 3 man groups at the tanglers, but I imagine there is more room for a minstrel in a group for now, at lest until the new power regen methods come in. In rvr however, I have immense fun. There are so many options available to you and you fit perfectly in both a group and can solo well. (At least I'm taking down a fair few level 50's on my own despite still being blue con to them :)) So long as you don't just sit playing power song /speed song in pve and rvr respectively, it never really gets boring.

I played a Sorceress at US for a while, since i played a paladin before this was a pretty big diffirence :) I love the class, especially the pets, and for soloing this class is very good. Its versatility is also very high, check the abilities out on www.classesofcamelot.com

In 1.59 (i know its miles from here but its comfortable knowing your class wont get nerfed like Cleric for an example. Knowing that it'll be buffed makes it more enjoyable imho) the class will be able to Charm all kind of mobs now = + undead types (ubernukers :)), castable mana-regen!!! and a self- and group mezreducer (reduces the lenght of the time you are mezzed, if going high in mind you will with the self mezreduction almost be unmezzable :)

Im now playing an Enchanter, i love PBAE :) Got pets, but its hp-regen is uberslow compared to charmed pets (equal to mobs hp-regen = very quick) but its also a fun class. But, everyone plays one :(

Maybe this was a little long, but i just wanted to tell you about the Sorcerer :) It will be a hard time mez when facing insta, but hopefully that'll change in 1.59. I hope you find an enjoyable class to play :)
