So, I've been working at a large financial organisation and my contract came to an end a week last tuesday. A renewal was in the offing but some edict from on high meant that it never came through.

Bless 'em, the lads in the team worked their cotton socks off and convinced the exec to give me a renewal. They would like me to start Monday.

Now all that's required is that the agency need to change the dates on the old contract for the new contract and re-issue it.

Simples? Well. I spoke to them at 9am this morning at which point they told me that the contract was being raised straight away and put on their system. Nearly 3pm and I've chased them twice, only to be fobbed off.

I'm wanted for a Monday start by the organisation. The only thing that's stopping it is the agency that's supposed to be working for them are a bunch of work shy lazy arsed dung mongers (like all of 'em).

I'm tempted to ring 'em up and say "Wednesday" but I could do with the two extra days cash to cover my quite horrendous credit card payment this month. Not to mention that the client wants me there at 9am sharp.

Aaaaargh! Even when I've got the fucking job these fucking leeches make it hard.

Nah. It's not a temping agency. (Well, they may actually have a temping arm). IT contracting type stuff.

I could rock up at one of their branches and they'd look at me kind of funny going "what the fuck are you talking about"?

I've had agents scream "you'll never work in this industry again" down the phone at me when I've turned contracts down only for them to ring me up on the monday morning going "I've got this great job for you..."

The tossers.

I used to work for an agency, back office stuff. The consultants really are a bunch of dicks, every single last one of them.

Can't you fuck them off and just get a short term contract with the company? They would pay out less and you could earn more. The money the agencies make for essentially introducing two people is horrendous. If they are paying you £200 a day they will be charging the client £250-£300.

All agencies work just fine if you treat them just fine. Adjust your own actions ;)

I can just imagie Scouse screaming "It's a scientificamally proven fact that this job is perfect for me and you just trolling me!"

Aye, I know. They're a bunch of dicks. They don't even get paid amazingly for being such dicks.

Luckily, the organisations I've been working for the past eight or nine years or so are generally big enough to lean on the agencies that work for 'em. I'd be surprised if the agency was getting more than 3-4% out of me on this one.

Edit: As for ditching them. Can't. Most larger organisations like the ability to manage at arms length. They can say "sack him" and you get marched off site and all the potential legal guff becomes the problem of the agency. They don't let small companies bid for work and invoice in the traditional sense so the agencies are a necessary evil, unfortunately.

How long have you been contracting Toht?

I believe all agencies must work just fine if you treat them just fine. Adjust your own actions as I believe that you must be at fault. Somehow. Thor told me...

Got it. At fucking last.

Problem is I'm back to the 170-mile daily commute as of Monday. And I was about to go camping too :(

170 miles...fuck that. It takes me 10 minutes to get to work and that's if there is traffic.

:)

The problem with camping is that it doesn't often come with facilities to press suits and shirts.

I guess I could spunk 50 quid on a BnB and an evening meal now and again. In fact, I may have to do that tbfh.

Anyway. I shouldn't be moaning. It's not 170 miles. It's 166.7 ;)
