FTP probs and DCC probs

Morning :)

I've scanned a load of pics from a lan and want to distribute them to the people who were there (not via the web I dont have webspace time etc etc).

Anyway I hate irc and for some reason I can't DCC files anyway. I can receive files via dcc but not send for some reason. I'll have to check exactly what happens when I'm at home and repeat it here.

Main prob is ftp. I've used Serv-U before, it was a year or so ago but I had no problems setting up accounts, administering it, letting friends connect etc. Now when I set up an account for my mate it tried to connect then he got "Socket Error 10600" - number might not be exactly right.

Any idea why they can't connect?

FTP is ON btw :p. I'm running 2 PC's and an XBox networked via cable modem and a hub. Firewall turned off btw (zone alarm).

Cheers.

not right now. it could be any one (or more) of several things. you can leave your fw on though: just OK the 'serve-u wants to act as a server" dialog box when it pops up iirc.

bit early, but mine's a murphys stout mate :)

Thanks for the reply matey :)

I'll try again tonight but cant mess too much as I'm off out. I'll get the exact error message then post back.

I agree, the DCC thing sounds like firewall but its not running at the time. Hmmmsss.

Btw no Murphy's for you, its Newcastle Brown on cheap today so that will have to do :p

Silly question: are you on win xp, and do you have the inbuilt firewall switched on?

Right click on your internet connection in my network places, then there's a tab there with firewall stuff.

Can't tell you precisely because I don't have XP, this is all from fairly distant memory.

no worries, just post the proper error and all is cool. nath's option seems quite viable really. onward the answer lies or something :)

Bonjour

Just to clarify nath's good idea, it's 'Control Panel' »' Network Connections' » Right-click on the appropriate connection and choose 'Properties' » 'Advanced' Tab. On this dialogue box you'll find a tick box to turn the Internet Connection Firewall on or off. You can configure it by clicking on the 'Settings' button in the bottom right.

Kind Regards

if you use mirc, i found this helped send dcc for some reason:

file > options > connect > local info >
on connect always get local info, check that box there

My DCC is fucked as well, no idea why. Says something about firewalls, but I'm not on WinXP and I don't have a firewall running.

The latest version of Serv-U is an abomination too.
