You may have noticed it's been a bit warm lately ;-]

Been playing with tweaking my MX400 gfx card - only 10% ish. The fan on it, is shite!

Got a few more fps & went into higher res modes in a few games.. -nice- :D

However some 3d games have been crashing out lately, q3 had graphical f..kups etc, so I backed off the overclock a bit, fine. All okeydokey :)

TODAY however, random things have been crashing out (ie internet explored & then my PC just - locked up - , no blue screen, just froze out no mouse or anything This has never happened on this PC before, so I hit the power switch (even CTRL-ALT-DEL did f-all). And had a think...... 3d games prob, shite fan on gfx card......... Opened er up, powered up & shone my trusty maglite in there & yup, sure as f..k the gfx card fan is not turning

AAAAAAhhhhhhhhhh stupid crap card!

Is this poor or what?

It is only 18 months old, made by 3D Power (avoid!), supposed to be well overclockable! Well overclockable my BUTT!

So, I've turned up my case fans to 3800rpm (noticed thyre getting noisy - sposed to be 'ultra-quiet ball bearing' !!!!!!!! 4 months on & the bearings sound fooked!

TIP: Don't buy these they're noisy shite!:

Fricks fricking sake! Are all my PC's components this crap? (serious self doubt going on here) ;-]

OK... anyway... declocked my gfx card and have my fingers crossed Bloody piece of crap deserves to fry!

Oh well, theres a lesson for me here somewhere

At least I have a good excuse to get a 9700pro or something now. Any suggestions? Or maybe something funky from NVidia? ?? ? ;-]

I can take small comfort that having my mobo monitor on all the time now, I know my P4 (overclocked) is still running at a cool 19 deg C and my mobo at a slightly warmer 37 centigrade - probably the gfx card warming it up! Even on a warm day!

Err & the moral is: never trust someone selling you something, no matter how good they make it sound!

3D Power = :twak:

Cheers

My gfx card fan packed up just last week. Must be an epidemic going around.

Asus haven't even responded to my emails or phone calls yet. And I'm on the 4th day of my next day delivery from businesspost for that thermaltake jobby.

Sux 2 B me :(

Just buy one of those small heatsink/fan units, and stick it on with silicone gel (you can get if from Maplins). The fan probably broke down because it got too hot, and suffered mechanical failure. A larger heatsink would sort that out.

Cheers m8, thats a good idea!

Misquote: 'Heatpipe, that's a good thing, that's a good idea! I wasn't thinking using a heatpipe on you... I'm not goung to use a heatpipe on you for any cooling I might get. I'm gonna use a heatpipe on you because I'll enjoy doing it!'

Thanks for the advice tom. I have fitted a Thermaltake Blue orb to my graphics card.

Had to prise the old heatsink off with a screwdriver wrapped in kitchen towel (butchery, I know, but gently done :D ). New fan and heatsink stuck on with the doublesided tape provided. Fan connected to motherboard case fan connector (gfx card fan connector was the wrong size). All running nice and cool. Lovely jubbly. :D

Unfortunately my gfx card can no longer be used to fry my breakfast. :D

As a side note, I replaced this crappy akasa jobby (very noisy):

With a nice, quiet, coolermaster one!

Much better. :D And no silly flashing lights!

I have been looking at one of those zalman motherboard heatsinks. My mobo has a small heatsink, but while I have been having these heat issues I have found that it got quite warm (up as high as 47 Centigrade, out of a safe maximum of 60C). Currently, CPU is at 27C (90C max), MB 43C (max 60).

One of these!
