Frontier-Only Server?

Mythic need a new type of server to spice up the game, so how about a frontier-zone only server. Exclusively for RvR and full PvP rules apply. Obviously you copy over your characters from regular servers, with a RR5+ restriction on the char.

In Europe, guilds from FR/GR/EN servers can finally duel it out against each other and claim some real credit(as opposed to running opted groups on a test server and recording "ownage" movies). The competition will be hard and it will take group RvR to a new level.

In effect, it makes two levels of RvR. RR1-5 on regular servers, where lower RR groups can leave their PK without getting farmed by RR10s. And most of the RR6+ players will be on the new server, focusing on opted group RvR.

Because it only hosts the Frontier zones, the server load/bandwidth usage will be alot less than a regular server. GOA could put one together by salvaging some old hardware and it'll run fine!

Yes because that would have been Cool and really made you seem like you have an extremely High IQ.

There has been talk of this kind of 'Battleground' before. Where the High RR can duke it out with each other and have constant challenging Battles without having to inflict there Righteous Full group only combat stigmata upon everybody else and could lead happy lives.

But

We know that wouldnt happen because most of the people that 'enjoy' High level full group action equally enjoy farming low RR's, the noobs . The server would most likely be under used or swamped with Germans xD. You could always Rightnow it and see if they respond or send your mail to the RvR Deleveloper Lead ^^.

Sounds nice in theory, but I get the feeling most RvR guilds would only be on it for a few weeks before 'getting bored' and going back to ganking people who can't defend themselves.

Because being honest at the end of the day thats what opted groups/RvR guilds are all about.

Theres several flaws to this, firstly, each server can take around 400 ppl in one zone before bombing, in this scenario, Emain would contain the server populus, or 3000 ppl. One dead server.

You could limit it, then everyone would whine all day long "QQ i cant get onto XXX server! I want meh mummeh, GOA should fix it blah blah bork bork!", rather like they do about Gorre, which isnt even an official server.

Then the drop in numbers on the main servers. Its always a challenge for everyone to defeat a higher RR or ML, yes we all get tired of getting RR ganked, but its part of the play, we pick ourselves up, dust our cloaks down and wade back in. Being high RR is part of ppls idea of End Game, not just par for the course.

A decline in numbers on any server is not good for others, it takes the fun out of RvR, even though we dont call dying fun, we keep going back.

How about a battleground for 50+, where only say 3fg from each realm can enter, and if you stand at the TK for too long you get ported out? Ranged buffs or whatever.

Ideas like this tend to roll from boredom, you see a lack of challange now that you are uber, perhaps a change of server would do you some good.

A server like this would never reach 3000, more likely to average at 500 and even that will fall after a few months.

Is that how it happens in the Excal zergs? On prydwen, people get ganked and log.

It wouldn't lower server populations any more then Camlann did, but will be good for some fun. Also the RvR on normal servers would probably get a boost without all the ganksquads around. At least hibs on prydwen might make an appearence too

It's true also that alot of RvR groups will avoid the server because they're only capable of farming randoms, but there're also groups who enjoy the competition and a competitive server like this would add something new.

This kind of Warfare is allready introduced in Guild wars.. You can chose the international arenas to fight in..

DaoC is so old and repetetive now. I realy dont think there is anything goa can do to save the game.. its now in the final stages of death

I'd rather see one without ToA and maybe even without SI personally.
I never played before SI.. even lvled in a second hand sc'ed gear from a friend once I hit 40+, so I would love to try playing where epic was leet And ofc without all the toa grinding!

a third engish language server (allowing someone to play all three realms), a home invasion server etc. etc. etc All have been beaten to death.

Actually I like the idea but would be nice to have similar server for RR1-4 too

-Ding 50 on normal server, get ToAed and stuff.
-copy/paste your char to RR1-4 server (note: copy/paste, not cut ).
-play on either normal server or RR1-4 server till you ding RR5.*
*maybe the RPs gained from frontier-zone server shouldn't move to normal server and you would have to start at RR1 or RR5 on frontier-zone server depending on the RR on the char you copy there? RR3 would start at RR1 and RR9 at RR5? oO

sounds like a good idea, would have to work on it a bit tho but the basics are nice, since whats really fun in daoc is when u have hard fights where the outcome can be whatever. Like if u fight against high number of inexperienced ppl or a fg opted group. Fighting ppl that cant defend themselves is mostly boring but when u have nothing else to fight its ok for a short period
