Front USB Case Setup?

Well, the case i got is nice and spinky, it has a USB Port on the Front of the Case.

Right, well because the Case didnt come with a diagram of some sort, i had to look in the Motherboard Manual, as to where all the pins go, to make the USB on the front work.

I found out where they go, only problem is, does it matter what way they go?

Just looked at the case again, and its like this:

Multicoloured leads, Red/White/Green/Black

Red = ² +5
White = ² -D
Black = ² Ground
Green = ² +D

I looked in the motherboard manual and on the motherboard, but there is no reference as to where i should put each pin.

They are all individual, not joined together if you know what i mean also.

So as i said, does it matter what order they go on, in the motherboard? Or doing it wrong could cause damage?

I had a usb header to go into the m/b there was only one way it could go, as one pin is missing. it's possible to insert only half the pins, then only half of the usb ports would would work.

Front usb ports are nice :)

As a general rule, you can't break PCs by wiring them backwards. At worst you won't be able to boot.

So just try it.;)

ok, here you go : colours are standard, thankfully

i cant tell you WHICH way round there is, but there is 2 rows of pins for 2 ports. One row is 5 pins, the other is 4.

4 pins : RED WHITE GREEN BLACK
5 pins : RED WHITE GREEN BLACK THICKBLACK

The 4 pin has the black next to the missing pin, that will help orientation.

I now thank you, for giving me the first actual use of my new Case Window :)

Theres only 8pins on the case/mobo...

It goes something like this...

|
| PCI Slots
|
|
|
|
|
| x x
| x -
| x x
| - x
| x x
|_____________________________

x = pins
- = blank

worrying... don't you just love standards?

The faceplate/backplate USB connections have NEVER been standardised, therefore each motherboard manufacturer has their own ideas on what they should do.

Try using the black (ground) on the pins after the blank space, and leave the larger black one off.

Shouldnt do any damage, if it does, blame shit instructions and send it back

:clap:

The website may take a while to load (did for me) but it works!

What's the attraction of USB ports at the front? I coulda wired my poota up like that but opted to use the extra header to have more USB ports on the back.... at the front it just means more unsightly cables etc???

Its useful for things you don't always have plugged in... MP3 player, Digital Camera easily accessable and all that...

Aye, i've 2 USB headers anyway, giving me 6 USB sockets usefully. The front two, I typically use for my joypad (if im bored enough to play FIFA stuff), my steering wheel, and my keyboard/mouse if i need a little extra length ( like im typing from bed ).

Quite useful, especially since pretty much everything these days is USB orientated.

Ahhh I didn't think of that... I still use PS/2 Mouse/KB and I don't have any fancy stuff like MP3's players or Digi Cameras :p

I've run out of usb ports, I have a choice to get either a pci header at the back, or a hub which I can put on the top of my computer easily accessible like front usb ports.

Do you know if I can get a via usb 2.0 pci card, as I have heard that the nec ones have some problems?
