my only comment is that i cant see the point of making a "staff" friar temp... unless you gonna purely solo... else in my opinion its tottaly gimped and worthless...

Not that has bodyguard, grapple, heat/cold/matter resists, end reduction, buff stripping styles.

its not that they should play pretend clerics, but they are there for bodyguard, grapple, resists and other stuff that has been mentioned... if i were to choose a friar for dmg dealing i would rather take a real tank instead...
