Friar Final Spec

Yes I know there is a Friar spec thread already but that is purely for BG plus I dont think it would get much attention as a new thread :p

Now going from my experiance of Wardens on Hib I guess that Healing isnt the main duty of a Friar with this in mind:

Rejuv 15 (for Raise Fallen)
Enhance 42 (for final reduce end)
Staff 40
Parry 27

I don't know how much the Staff 50 style is worth it, as I would have to reduce Parry to 13 and Enhance to 38. Then again is Parry worth attention?

Advice/thoughts pls :)

If i were you i'd drop staff to 39, put enhance to 45 and drop parry down to 23. There is no style at 40 in staff so might as well drop down to 39 which is last one before 40. Moving enhance to 45 you getter better dmg absorb, better shield and better dex buff. I have 12+10 in parry and master of parry 1 and parry a hell of a lot in PvE, not done enough RVR to tell how effective it is in there but 23 should do you fine.

15 rejuv - thought I'd help realm mates
44 staff - nice damage
45 enhance - last dex/qui buff
12 parry

I'm flirting with respeccing to battle-friar spec though:

7 rejuv - gets cure disease and poison for those ewul shammies
39 staff - still good damage
49 enhance - gets all the toys including uber resists and tasty haste buff
19 parry

Gonna see how my original spec fares first before I consider battle spec.

I have never changed my spec since I hit 50 ... which was an age ago ! :)

I have been tempted a few times now since the respecs came in but tbh I am pretty happy with my spec and always have the attitude, "If it aint broke, dont fix it."

Rejuv - 11 - (7 minimum for the cure disease/poison + left over points)
Staff - 39 - (I have never felt I lacked in dmg with 39 staff and it frees up points in my other lines. If I ever respec I may try 44 staff but in comparrison to friars with 44 staff I have noticed very little difference)
Enhance - 47 - (Gives me the best buffs of everything with the exception of the last 2, 24 resists (Matter/cold). But more importantly I have the last haste and dex/qui, for someone who favours slow staves over quick ones this is a must.)
Parry - 26 - (I had faith in mythic fixing this, now the patch has arrived I am not convinced it is fixed in RvR. Although I parry a hell of a lot PvE which is great for my tanking skills. I do parry in RvR but for the high spec I would have liked a noticiable difference when the "fix" came in but I have not. If anything should make me change my build it would be to drop parry to about 20 and bump staff to 41)

Lastly, while this may suit my playstyle, there is lots of viable builds when it comes to friars. Trick is to find one you are happy with.

Staff at 40 is a waste, you can easily get 50 with 39 staff. No point going to higher than 39 really cos you'll find that all you use is Friar Boon / Counter Evade. The 50 staff style is pointless. AFAIK from testing done, it hits for about the same as counter evade, it's off of a parry (we evade a ton more) and it has no defence bonus (less chance to evade again)

42 Enh is also a bit of a silly place to stop, you either want to stop at 44 (for the final absorb buff) or go to 46+ for the extra resist buffs and extra haste (yummy). No point stopping at 45 because you only gain 4 extra Qui/Dex points from the last buff (this is because when you get +1 enh you actually get 1.25x the delve value so 57 delve gives you +71 (75 being the cap) and the extra 12 AF again isn't much worth it.

Depending on wether you want support class or damage dealer depends also where you stop. You can feasibly stop at 38 (for the second to last haste buff) and up your rejuve (if you are that way inclined)

a few spec templates...

High Enh (good damage, high magic resists, cure poison/disease, medium parry)
39 Staff, 49 Enh, 19 Parry, 7 Juve

High Juve (not great damage, medium resist, good healing, medium parry)
29 Staff, 44 Enh, 21 Parry, 33 juve

All rounder
39 Staff, 38 Enh, 27 Parry, 25 Juve

Personally I like to heal slightly more so I am going for:

39 Staff, 49 Enh, 9 Parry, 18 Juve. I get a nice variance on my heals, low parry, but that doesn't bother me too much as I am getting high MoParry.

At the end of the day though, it is quite hard to gimp a friar (unless you are really trying hard) so go with your own playstyle.

I forgot to add that the 44 Staff style is good (9sec stun) but a side positional is hard to pull off (unless they are fighting someone else) and by the time you get around to using the stun, chances are they have already been stunned (thus invoking the 1 min stun timer) or they are practically dead and the stun is worthless.

Usefull in PvE though...

44 Staff, 44 Enh, 15 Parry, 15 Juve

/em shrugs

just my $0.02

My spec looks like this:

staff = 39 ( like people have said, more than adequate)

enhance = 47 ( for the last haste, and the all but the 2 highest resists in cold and matter)

rejuv = 25 ( a 293 heal everytime, and with items i can easily get over the 2/3rd spec to decrease my vairance on my non-spec heals)

parry = 7 ( leftovers)

Basically i wanted a true hybrid, someone who could heal and fight well, and most of the time it works great. I can easily switch between roles in RvR and PvE groups. I found that i couldn't heal enough in PvE while i was leveling with 18 rejuv, so i pushed it to 25 and i wasn't disappointed with the results!

Though one thing to bear in mind is I'm a pre 1.46 ( the patch with all the friar class fixes in), , level 40+ friar so i got a few extra spec points. So my template isn't attainable for friars below 40 after 1.46 . ( i think faith was a pre 1.46 40+ friar if i'm not mistaken, so her template isn't possible atm either :) )

I find that at times I do struggle when trying to be primary healer with 18 juve, but with MCL and serenity 1 it has become much easier... it also helps if I dive in and beat up the mob a little until someone needs some healing.

But there has been the 'odd' death or two :)

Yup this is true, I was lvl 50 at the time the patch which gave us 1.5 points per lvl went live in europe. So unfortunately new friars wont get as much skill points to work with.
