is there any conflicts in Device manager? or have you overclocked your Processor? Is there sufficient heat in the case? Is your CPU overheating?

Many many question heh

I would go for the latest operating system if you can afford it. I mean 98, that's four years ago; I near microsoft is the work of the devil and all but windows does get better and better (though cunningly slowly) with fewer problems with installation and running. A warning though, DONT USE WINDOWS ME!:) go straight for XP, it looks wierd at first but I've had no problems with it and it setup my network without me having to do anything which was nice.
