Aye, if you xp ding to 47, you will get free level to 48.
No this is not the case. The amount of XP is determined when the popup occurs and is precisely the XP required to go from the level earnt to the next level. It can appear as less if you wait awhile to take it simply because one XP bubble for the higher level takes more XP than a bubble at the free level gifted. For example, If you free level was earnt upon dinging level 2 yet you didnt redeem it till level 10 it would likely be less than 1 bubble when redeemed but would still be exactly the same amount of XP compared to if you redeemed it immediately upon receiving the pop-up.

Yeah ... I was level 42.8... the days had passed by and I was entitled to a free level ONCE I leveled past 43 myself... Got to 43.0 .... popup saying Your ready for a free level ... leveled additional 0.03 before group broke up...
So at 43.03 I visited trainer and got to 44.03... realized I was missing some points from mini-ding ... started cursing, checked http://daoc.catacombs.com to see if I was right, almost started crying
p) and chain-click-spammed my trainer, and I heard the lovely pling-a-ling-thingy sound and got my miniding pts aswell...
So remember to click the train twice

last free lvl is from 47->48
it doesnt matter if you ding 47 before the 4 day period has passed - both conditions (doing one level and waiting for the free level period to elapse have to be positive - the order in which the 2 conditions occur doesn't matter)
also you don't get less exp when you continue leveling; the free lvl mechanism works like this: as soon as both conditions are fulfilled (you gained a level yourself AND the free level period has elapsed) you are granted enough exp to get from lvl X to X+1. The amount of exp does not change if you continue exping. Examples:
(note: in all examples the 2 conditions have been reached at lvl 40)
- you are lvl 40.00; visiting your trainer will get you to lvl 41.00
- you are lvl 40.30 (you have made 3 bubs towards 41); visiting your trainer will get you to approximately 41.20 (because at lvl 41 you need more exp for each bub than at lvl 40)
- you are now lvl 41 (you have made a full level since you were granted a free level but you didnt take it at lvl 40): when you visit your trainer now you will get to about 41.80; the problem here is that the free level (actually it's free exp) was calculated for lvl 40 - since you leveld to 41 yourself the exp (which was granted for lvl 40->41) is not enough to go from 41 to 42
