The link doesn't work for me, but what exactly is this about? Is it like Seti@home?

Deebs already runs a FH distributed computing effort for cancer research. Might be better to ask him for the details than start another...

No in this silly forum app you can only edit things for a few minutes after you've posted. Only a moderator can change the original post now.

Just to clarify to anyone, the team name is actually Barrysworld (for some reason u cant change the team name, only the description) - the team was created back in the old BW days, but the links above all link to that team name.
And yeah Tom, it is a seti@home style thing, but matching potential cancer cure molecule structures against a target etc. (And theres a smallpox drug one too if thats ure bag).

Nice one lads, the freddys graph has spiked pronto. Yes we all know its likely to make such minimal difference in the long run. But using our wasted pc power even to rule out (or hopefully find) potential cancer cures has gotta be worthwhile.
Im always a sceptic at best, but in these situations its a no lose....."EVERYONES A WINNER BABY THATS THE TRUTH...dodoodododoo"

it still doesn't have a unix client? pity, my boxes are generally up for 100+ day periods, whereas my doze box is up for hours and then turned off again.

Ah well, blame bill gates for cancer, or something. Hell they didnt bother even to optimise for hyperthreading which is lame.
But plod on i shall! ;)

Start a team with a linux program TdC and see how long it takes to clock up more cpu time than the windows llamas ;)

there are distributed computing programs that run on unixes. SETI springs to mind, but tbh if I'm going to burn cycles then I'd prefer to do it on a cancer cure because I have the odd notion that we will have a cancer cure before we find an alien race who has. sadly, my windows computer is up for an hour a day or so, while my database/webserver/mailserver thing is up for something like 80 days now.
