Fraps, tips on recording with less lag?

I really wanna record some of my fights, but when i turn fraps on my fps drops like crazy, is there anything one can do to make fraps and daoc run more flawlessly? I dunno like turning priorities up or down or anything? Tips welcomed with open arms !

Lower screen resolution, lower capture quality etc

Capture at 1024 x 768, capture full screen (instead of half screen), play the game full screen, ensure you are running latest video drivers (ATi nay sayers will disagree but hey), ensure AV is disabled + any other background processes that are unnecessary, set ingame shadows to none, ideally record to another drive that isnt being used for pagefile.

Ok newb question, whats a pagefile?

A page file is 'virtual' ram, into which windows writes all of its current data thats important. You are permanently writing to your page file so if you are recording onto the same drive obviously theres a little bit of a bottleneck. Simple as that.
