Fraps help

I play in fullscreen 1900x1200 with 24" widescreen, so if I wanted to record anything would I have to play in window mode at a lower rezz (to cut out widescreen) so that the whole screen is viewable to people with smaller screens?

You wouldn't have to play in windowed mode, but it will need a standard rez, as far as im aware - i've been playing around with fraps recently too, but no widescreen monitor, so i can't really help much more soz

you can record in any res you want (as long as fraps supports it), just choose a good custom res in your editing program.

What's a good editing program?

Last time I did any video editing stuff, was for Q3 years ago so kinda rusty on what to get.

sony vegas, read vf's and rure's guides on moviemaking and it shouldnt be a problem
