fps question

Can anyone tell me why, after changing from a 32MB TNT2 to a GF2 mx400, im still only getting 30fps, tops (20 on survivor) in CS

I checked the configs in CS and Valve and changed the fps max setting to 100, but still no good.

Correct me if Im wrong, but fps in CS isnt connection bound is it?

I got a 950 tbird and 512mb ram, so that shouldnt be the prob.

Any ideas.

fps_modem will be set to 30. Try changing it to 100.

Most likley your valve or cs config file. In that case open it up, scroll down chnage fps_modem 99 and max_fps 99 , i f that don't sort it , turn off vsync in ytour geforce opengl properites

Aye, but I forgot it was 99, not 100.

You can disable anti-aliasing too, if you find it still doesn't cut it.

disable "vertical sync or V-sync" in your graphics card settings - usually under the openGL bit

A friend of mine was whinging that his FPS in CS was only 60, disabled V-sync and it shot up to 89

I've never tried altering the modem fps setting, just the max_fps -its a pity the game max's out at 99

V-Sync is not the problem. It caps fps to the monitors refresh rate, usually 60.I doubt if his refresh rate is 30 fps.

This may sound obvious but.. make sure you are using your AGP card and not running in software mode, settings/video....

A clan m8 a while ago couldn't figure out why his AGP card was sooo crap, software mode rox :)

Willer, you say you are now getting 50 - 60 fps, have you got that figure from net_graph 1? if not try running net_graph 1 in CS and see what fps it gives you. If you have tried all the above approches and you still can't pull 99fps you could try going over your bios settings to make sure your agp is optomised as I know some1 else who couldn't get the 99, and the bios is what held it off. gl :)

make sure u have installed ure motherboard drivers :) many people 4get.

U should get at least 90fps with that kinda spec

a good tool to test performance (to see if its ure system or HL) is 3dMark2001. Download it and run it. Then compare the scores with the others.
