It's Fox, it effects Americans because of their get out clause amendments. Thankfully we do not have news channels as rabid as Fox in Europe.

But it is wrong, however ruling or not, Fox would still report whatever they liked.

The reason for this is that who do you trust with the power to decide what is distortion?

We have people in Finland who have been sentenced for criticising Islam/current immigration policy. To me this proves that governments can not be trusted with that power.

I'll rather have hundreds of individual corporations telling me lies (because theres a good chance atleast one of them is telling the truth) instead of the government deciding what is good enough to be on tv.

Well immediate arguments that come to my mind are

For :

Protect the source
News black outs concerning court orders where a judge has deemed it necessary to do this - but this is dodgy ground in itself if they go to print on it
Withholding information concerning government policy, local government policy and generally misdirection to gain a better aspect of the facts for later copy
Avoidance of law suits where an editor/sub editor could go to court and or jail/prosecution for as we call in the business 'print and be damned'.

Against

Libel
Defamation
Erosion of democracy
Quality of news/reputation
and so on and so on

Personally as a journalist myself, I would not be either comfortable or happy in doing any work for this company, it's just not ethical...

FOX NEWS ARE A REPUTABLE, STAND-UP, DECENT NEWS NETWORK.

See, I can misinform/lie without a court order. :D

This one will end up in the Supreme Court I suspect.
