Format bringing back old problems?

Ok. Yesterday I formated my PC after turning it on and getting an error message telling me that a file was missing and I may need to reinstall windows. So I decided to format.

Everything was working fine untill I'd got everything up and running, gfx card, lan, sound etc. Then my PC started to lock up at random times for no reason. Leaving no option but to hit the reset button. I've come to the conclusion that it's my graphics card causing the problem, as when I first purchased and installed my graphics card the same problem would happen, although it seemed to fix it's self....

That isn't the case now :( the format seems to have somehow brough back the problem. I've been able to help towards it somewhat by making it happen less frequent, every 2 hours or so when playing a game and at random times when browsing the web. Installing old graphics card drivers and reducing the "PCI Texture Memory Size" has helped. These were all advice given from friends.

I'm using the same OS as I used before the format (Win 98). Using a GeForce 3 Ti 200 AGP, Direct X9.
Using all the same drives as before.
Anyone got any solutions to this problem? It's really annoying trying to level as I'll crash half way though a fight most of the time.

Thanks for any help !

sounds like overheating. have you tried running it with the case off? maybe a gentle fan blowing air across the side of it?

Ok no idea if you have the same problem as I did.. but my GF4 ti4200 was fine. I formated, installed same drivers and it was locking up randomly, tho mostly when I tried to use the graphics a bit more (not just desktop).

Like when I opened daoc, and some autorun games.

I uninstalled the driver using a detonator remover then I downloaded a brand new driver and installed it.

NightChill - I've taken the side of the case off and it's been off ever since. I'll try putting a fan next to it. thanks :)
Ten - So did switching drivers work? i've tried installing old drivers and still get the same problem. What's detenator remover? that a program I'd have to download or just simply pressing remove in the Add/remove programs list?

I've been told it could have something to do with a IRQ Conflict too, I'll try that out later on.

I've switched my GeForce3 for an old GeForce 2 and the problems fixed, although im playing games now with really crappy graphics.. I'll try the driver thing again, fan thing, switching to direct x8, then mess about the the IRQs in bios. if that doesn't work i'll just buy a new gfx card.

Search for the program on google. Aparrently it fully removes detonator drivers then you can install a new downloaded one from nvidas website
