For those of you that hate AMD...

Got bored today, so decided to play around a little with a certain CPU I had lying around. AMD are so shit they can't even make their processors do anything interesting whilst on fire :|

Nothing interesting happened. I do however suggest children try this at home.

No doubt the quality AMD thermal diode was reporting "all ok"

Not really made out of any materials that would produce a pop...should of stuck it in a frying pan with a little oil ;)

Well Embattle :)

They're in no order, i'm way too lazy.
Pics are a bit shit quality as well, ancient camera :|

Did make a LOT of popping noises, and the amount of smoke was a little overwhelming at the end. Set my alarms off anyway.

However, i've found the opposite of ZIF (Zero Insertion Force) : Zero Removal Force :D - The likkle chips on the top of the chip simply slid off :D

Good fun, at least for 10 minutes :)

The smoke is, fairly obviously, coming off the pan, not the chip. You've burned the teflon.

you'll need to wire it up to the mains for a song and dance ;)

They're not chips...there just little foam protectors ;)

no . they ARE chips : not the rubber bits. : the little bits that surround the core.

There's no teflon left on the pan anyway afaik : it's an ancient little one that the last tenant left in the cellar. Ideal for such experiments in the name of science ;)

Shit camera, so i cant get close enough with a decent pic :|

Come to think of it, is there anything left of amusement i can do to this? (except serve it to a pc world employee with some fish and say "i want my money back, it doesnt taste right")

And preferably not involving mains, if I wasn't paying for the place i'd not mind, but cba with that :|

It doesn't burn (ironically), it smokes a lot, all the chippy things have fell off the surface etc.

I think he was implying that the AMD chip was actually hotter than the frying pan (as AMD usually are) and hence the pan caught fire

The big black thing in the middle is the chip and those little things surrounding it are passive components, most probably them popping and the thermal pads, foam things, have come off too...very good....deep fat fry it ;)

Just looking at the topic, isn't hate a little strong for a company that makes processors? A little hard to get so worked up about it, surely?

No, that isn't my opinion at all. Just so many people do :)

I'm not a great fan of "certain qualities" that are evident in why that CPU did not work in the first place.

For those of you crying "cruelty to cpu's!" it was dead anyway.

"But you wouldn't burn a dead man for a laugh!!!"

No, but this ain't a human. It's an AMD. Human's can count faster.
