For the ones who still consider to play DAoC on EU servers when WAR is released.

Forgive my ignorance if info about this already been posted.
Apparently GOA hosted another game called "The 4 Coming" before they got the daoc licenses. This game was instantly dropped when daoc was released. Might be something for you guys to consider.

Also some flames on the fire for the whole "leave the sinking ship thingy" :p

We gonna start Destruction, in case it's grossly unbalanced in favor of it, then we gonna reroll Order ^^
Last poll was like 99% Usa, judging from the last news about Daoc from Goa i don't think we gonna change our mind -.-

Aye, suffice to say as far as I know, no one from NFD will be on euro war.

Ofcourse the problem is that quite a few nfd on the euro beta, so hope apathy doesnt lead us all just to go with what appears initially to be the easiest option, rather than biting the bullet after beta and going over to yank servers.

I mean, really - is there any reason at all to play WAR on euro? I bet people can list a lot of reasons not to and lets be honest, when making such decisions, past experience is simply the best yardstick we all have.

The german servers I have played on are fine. There is not much they can do for the low pop servers really and the multi language cluster was never going to happen. So its a choice between French or American GMs!

Such a dilemma really. I know most IRL friends and future friends will be playing on EU. While most of the Dyvet people will go US :(

I can't decide yet.

Will play WAR EU mainly because of the latency as I cba to play a game with 1-3 sec delay, also never had any problems with GOA myself that I can think of.
Only reason I see playing US is if the pop on WAR would be near unplayable but seeing as EA is marketting WAR that shouldn't be a prob.

It will be an EA decision to close DAOC 'when' the do, they had another MMO with 30k subs(earth above and beyond or something) and cancelled that in the blink of an eye.

I suspect that once WAR is up and running well, DAOC will be switched off ever so quietly.

Eble

Hoping to play WAR on on Aussie server failing that US all the way, I believe WAR is a multi language package so the shit hole that became of DAOC english cluster 'shouldn't' happen again, also they will patch at the same time as US servers so not left behind.

If I know of a lot of people joining Euro I might be tempted to join and group up for old times sake.

Well , The 4th Coming , is a very old game with bad gameplay .

GoA wasnt the reason that game failed ...

Ever tried playing on US servers?

Most of the time the latency will be smaller than to a France one!
Hopefully GOA will actually learn and put the WAR servers somewhere other than the 1980's tho.. not that it bothers me since i'll go US if I play.

No dilemma.
U start US .. then when the EU part dies, they will migrate to US.

Btw...any1 got any real ideas/ways to make widely known how sh*t GOA is and to try to make the english speaking player base (at least) prefer signing on US ?

Tried the US trial and playing with a 150-200+ ms delay or a 20-30 ms delay makes a huge difference no matter what people try to say, I just cba to lose a fight knowing I could have won it if I didn't have a delay.
I don't mind losing it actually makes you a better player but losing because you 'lag' behind 1-3 secs from 99% of the other people on the server is just unacceptable for me.

I know people will say spells and abilities have a capped cast time / use speed so 1 sec delay shouldn't matter but things like movement is a constant updating process and unless you zerg and just have to click on a person and press your 1 button all the time it is going to decrease your abillity to compete by a mile and seeing as I don't know how WAR works yet I won't take that risk and play it safe.

33 ms for me to Prydwen.
112 ms for me to the Mythic gateway.

DAoC is not an FPS, I doubt that the ping difference matters in DAoC.

DAoC's net and movement code is obviously fubared. Dyvet lags extremly for me, even though the server is almost empty. Some of the maps/levels in DAoC, like Camelot for example are lagging me so bad on my really good gaming PC, I don't know if it's the Gamebryo engine or just some people who did wrong modelling for the engine.

I think its some of the textures and effects, that are loaded incorrectly.
and yeah regarding the ping,I dont feel any diff tbh, maybe you're in a very minor disadvantage if you play a main CC'er.

I always had a quicker connection to the US DAoC servers from Switzerland than I did to GoAs servers. Something to do with France Telecom I think.

as for connection to temair, it was horrible for me a while ago. from a steady 20-40 ping in the morning and afternoon it shot up to 150 and sometimes to ~300-500 at times.

those ping changes happened really sudden, utter internet noob talking here - but it felt like someone at opentransit flipped a switch and squeezed the pipe to give less bandwidth to everyone individually

a 300 ping is horrible in a fps, but in a mmorpg it shouldn't make a huge difference - but it does. when pingplotter shows a 20-40 ping there is hardly any meleelag problem, when the ping is ~150 however.. i have to run in front of people and ill still only swing once every 2-3 rounds (not even talking about landing styles...)

no clue how it all works or what the real problem is, but if meleelag is a good benchmark for how good connections to the server are, US should be better then european ones. (at least I havn't ever heard any complaints about meleelag on US servers)

Your beta chars will go plop! - the moment it goes live. Normal standard procedure for any game that beta's :) If peeps in your guild think that they have a chance they won't, then they need to beta more games or get in on the alpha which then might stand a small chance of that character being available when it goes live bearing in mind the possibility that it will become a GM char ;)
