Why go for a Fx62?

100% better off going for a Intel Conroe chip

Oki so unbudgeted

I'm not really one for a water cooled rig, but unless i've missed something thats the daddy...

Better Cpu, better gpu, better psu and significantly better case

Also with two raptors in raid 0 you're really not going to notice that much difference

Also depends on the screen(s) that you're using, if it can take 1600x1200 then stay with the 7950, any lower a 7900 is going to be fine

Hundreds of people asking for conroe specs, the one above is following the same lines

Not a Sli board, only conroe compatible multi gpu mobo is crossfire.

Since 7900GX2 is 2x 7900GT, 2x 7900GTX in SLI should perform better, and you cant SLI GX2, especially not on an intel based board. ;)

2x 1900XT in CF should outperform the GX2 though.

Thats why I mentionned the resolutions of monitors, I doubt you'd see any difference between the x1900cf and the gx2 until 2550x1600 + rez

Not that I have ever used a gX2 before, but I know that even one of my x1900 will have 30+ fps on max detail oblivion on one of my monitors

Resolution isnt the only thing that lowers your performance though.

One thing lacking from these no budget machines :

http://tomshardware.co.uk/2005/09/07/can_gigabyte/

Get your O/S and your games on one each of these.

Or at least go for extreme drive performance - Pagefile on it's own disk, O/S on Raid 0 pair, Games on another Raid 0 pair, Data on mirrored Raid pair. Only 7 drives.

Put 4GB of RAM in if you're going money-no-option.

Note to self: I must never look at this thread drunk or I'll buy that PC :D

Higher resolutions = generally lower fps, try running a 6600gt on a 1600x1200 on oblivion then run it on same detail at 1280x1024

In this case its the only factor that matters though. Using CF/SLi/GX2 with screen that supports only 1280x1024 (or so) would be just plain stupid as you wouldn't see performance increase compared to one card even if you have all the eye-candy options maxed.

Oh, and you can Quad-SLi GX2 cards if MB supports it

Afaik only some OEM mobos support that at this point. And for some reason I think you can slow down a single 7900GT for example, if you turn on everything at a 1280x1024 resolution. And if not, you can always get a higher 3d Mark-score.
