I think to enjoy it you have to be a fan of Mr Kubrik though - he does have a pretty unique way of directing films.

Black Hawk Down is amateur compared to FMJ

Too "americanised" and a bit too stylised for me - i like the fact FMJ is relatively bare of any decoration or fancy effects. Just explosions, lots of long drawn out single camera scenes, some amazing dialogue... BHJ tries to overwhelm you with action a bit too much in some scenes for my liking

i've tried to watch FMJ about 5 times but can only get as far as the bit after vincent d'onofrio shoots his brains out, think i watched a bit more than that years ago but i cant recall, that first bit is quality though.

Jarhead imo is better because i dont fall asleep while watching it and is actually based largely on a true story which afaik FMJ isnt.
