~20 million XBOX units sold total. Still far short of PS2 which is at about 82 million units.

buy a cheaper console you're gonna have to expect to get burned.

Surely xbox is the most expensive console? :p

Anyway, at least they replace them, Sony just let your DVD drive break then say "tough, buy the new small one!" :p

I had some problems with my launch model PS2, it started munching Tekken Tag Tournament discs. Each time I had a problem Sony sent me a new console and game.

So no, they don't say "tough buy the new one" the slightest. You have literally just made that up for the sake of your argument. Which sucked cos you seem to have a problem with maths.

xbox = £99
ps2 = £105

105 > 99

therefore

ps2 > xbox

and this has been the case for as long as I can remember, Xbox always being that little bit cheaper (typical marketing strategy, if you can't beat the opposition in quality just undercut them).

Actually Bods, I would say Sony have a slight quality control issue with PS2's -although the new model seems fine. Now I know there are far more ps2's than xbox's sold, but working in retail I have had lots of ps2's come back with the drive knackered, usually after the one year warrenty period. And that's where Sony charge you for repair, and provide a further 3 month warrenty.

Home electronics are designed to break just out of warranty; Sony is hardly the only one to do it. ;)
It's no use though Nath, bodhi is firmly under Sony mind control, no matter what they are the best and everything else sucks, no point trying to change his mind.

The 99/105 price point for the consoles is quite recent, I don't recall previous pricing though, I just seem to remember xbox being more expensive. They're both a lot more expensive than the NGC though (£40 iirc), which doesn't seem to have drive issues, nor set your house on fire. I guess in this case buying the cheapest console is actually the best bet.

thats becuse they prolly stand the ps2 on its side. me and my brother got ours same day on luanch day. his has always been on its side while mine has been flat. he has sent his back 3 times and recently replaced it with the slim line version. mine has been working no probs.

I've never tried to change his mind. The PS2 is clearly a better games console - has a larger variety of better games. I like the xbox more because it's my home entertainment centre - I play my divxs from it via the network. It's dead handy, but as he keeps saying, I had to hack it to do that.

Out of the box, the ps2 is a better console to have but I'm not as bothered about the games (anymore).

I was kinda inferring there was a quality control panel by having to send 3 ps2's back, but every time Sony have replaced it for free. Can't really ask for much more.

Oh and Danya if you can't come up with a better argument than "mind control" I suggest piping down. There's a good lad.

Why bother, you never come up with anything better than "it's good because more people own it", which is hardly the world's best argument - remember, most people are stupid, you agree with a lot of stupid people, what does that make you? :p

Yeah the are fine within warrenty, as are MS, but in my experience most people have their dvd drive fail after the one year period, and that is where Sony, much like Apple with the ipod, profit.

edit: How many commas ffs.
