Fixed my lockups!

Well after trying various things like Detonator drivers, Sound drivers and the like I came up with a cure for my 5 second freezes.

BT's ADSL uses a transparent proxy cache which causes web pages to get fucked up while browsing. To get round this I put a proxy server in my connection settings as instructed by BT. This cured my web browsing probs but it seems it was that that causes the lockups in T2.

It just means evertime I want to browse or play T2 - I have to change my network settings.

The way to tell if your lockups are connection or game based is to host a bot match. if it doesnt still lock up then with no net connection - you know its not your game doing it and its your isp.

Hope this helps you guys!

Firstly, T2 doesnt even run over port 80 and so this web proxy wouldnt even be a factor in fixing / causing these redjacks .. the truth is I'm actually redjacking in all games now. BTo is a shit isp it has to be said especially when it comes to gaming. I've had the service since january and i've always seen packetloss over their own network.

The only thing I can suggest is to email support@btopenworld.com with some evidence of the redjacks and hope they look into it. But I know for sure that when the contract renewal comes around I wont be paying £50 for BTo, they can shove it :)

Hmmm so your saying my fix is wrong cause it doesnt run on port 80?

Ok so explain how when I put the proxy server back in I lockup all over the place and when I dont have proxy I run smoothly at 75fps for hours on end?

Interesting.

Does Tribes2 use port 80 or 8080 for transmitting receiving info? A search of Google gave some info on the original Tribes having a problem with ISP proxys.

As a matter of interest was the proxy, suggested by BT, cache.bt.net port 3128?

Fair point that Tribes 2 does not run over port 80. But the point mant is trying to make is that disabling the use of his ISP's proxy server fixed his problem. I have heard that disabling proxy use has help others to - not just with t2 either. Cheers for the info mant.

Lockups

I've had Proxy turned off for ages... still getting lockups
anyone else having problems with BT Openworld, and has it just been since the last patch (possibly the netcode), although there was no problem with the BETA of the last patch....

Not just BT

I've been getting these on and off from the start. Once it starts to lock up then it gradually gets worse until I have to disconnect and re-boot.

Barrysworld dialup on a Barrysworld server, single channel ISDN and I'm pinging 200+ with loads of lock ups. :(

Athlon 700 , GForce 2 GTS (6.31) , SB Live 1024 (Liveware 3).

I also get sound lock ups, or sound just repeating. I had the missle lock sound non-stop for about 5 minutes the other day.

When it locks my ping goes upto 4563 (always the same) and all other things on the network settings just flat line.

Sometimes hitting esc 50 times really quickly seems to help.

Dodgy old network code if you ask me, I should be able to ping at least 90 on the BW servers.

Try the miles 2d sound option in Tribes2 settings and you can also try turned down the Sound Hardware Acceleration in DXDiag.
That`s been known to cure some peoples issues.

Yup - mine had got much better.
This happened after the service totally went down for a few hours.

I think they sorted it out.
