I never knew there was a problem with it running on win2k. The only prob you may come accross is crap drivers. Try upgrading your graphics drivers or something.
You need to give more details too.

Graphics card?
System Specs?
Memory etc etc

i dont know if this is gonna work but ive coppied the screen to show the error message:

It says,
This version og Quake 2 will not install on this Language of version of Windows 95/NT, to find out if a version localised for
system is availiable for purchase, please contact your local activision office.

There you go, makes no sense to me, im running Windows 2000 with service pack 2, Intel 810 graphics card with latest drivers, 800mhz chip Pentium.
All my drivers are up to date, any clues with the error message

Ah, that's an easy one there then. You've simply not got your windows settings right....

Go into the control panel and select regional settings and make sure the country you're in is the UK.

For some reason Q2 detects if you've got it installed on a US computer. Dunno why. That should solve the problem. Let us know. :)

You don't need to run the setup.exe program to install Q2 from the CD, just copy the files straight from the CD onto your HDD and Bob's yer mother's brother.

:D

The installer doesn't work on W2K. Just copy the files from the CD (ie the baseq2 directory and the root stuff), apply the 3.20 patch, and it will work.

sigh, the installer does work in win2k, just some ppl are too thick to even change the regional settings to English - United Kingdom and set Central Europe as the default for language settings

Q2 has always installed fine via installer on mine...even when I used NT4 in the past I had no problems as long as the default contry selected was UK.

At length:

4-in-1 drivers are for the VIA chipset and not for a specific motherboard make.

If your motherboard uses a VIA chipset then you need to download them from www.viahardware.com or www.via.com.tw

You should also have got them on a CD with the motherboard.

However, that does NOT affect the installation of Q2, but the performance of it after being installed.

In short...

wtf?
