First try at a pure Melee Scout template (weaponless)

Debating respeccing to 50 Shield, 44 Slash, 35 Stealth, 12 Bow on my Scout for a laugh. This is the best template I've come up with so far, although the low Hits and Con really would hurt.

I've tried to avoid any really expensive items, since this is gonna be more of a fun character and I need to retemplate my sorc AND buy a Sililia's Necklace for my reaver :p

It's a weaponless temp ofc, but it works very well with the Scout Dextera Blade and Malice. I might also look at getting a couple of the new crafted legendaries which boost that heat resist a little.

Anyone got any better ideas?

Too few hp imo...i would look for 350+ as a scout ( the shield wont protect u that much)

UPDATE

Tried again...dropped the +shield and tried to improve hits and con. Came up with this. Plan would be to use the Champ Slasher as my "regular" weapon with Malice on back. I'd open fight with Malice (97 str, 4/9/9 TOA bonuses) until I got a proc then switch to Champ (100 str, 8/8/9 TOA bonuses). I'd also try to get Traitors (for fighting tanks) and maybe a couple of crafted leggies for people with crappy resists.

Obviously I'll lose HPs when I switch from Malice to the Champ Weapon, but that isn't an issue. I'll also be farmed by anyone using Sun Weapons...but that's what Shield Trip and End Pots are for :p

+11 shield is (apparently) equal to +5% to blockrate so it will be a loss, but hopefully my extra HPs (which will kinda count double if I spec IP..and I will :p) will make up for it.

dont drop +shield for more hp...its like ... pfff :)... shield is your defence...why drop defence for hits...when u mist have both ?

hmm, 100hp is like what? a half swing from a ns/sb?

tbh +11 to shield is more important than 100hp cause if you block once more then you virtually have gained more hp.

Bear in mind I'm not expecting to actually win any fights with this toon. +Shield doesn't do much when I'm running away from a mid or hib "solo" stealther (ie 4 or less). :p

It's more for fun. On a more serious note, more HPs will mean I get more benefit from IP and FA (if I spec it later). Also, shield is completely gimped against multiple attackers and dual-wielders. Even if we consider the ridiculous notion of finding a soloer on Cluster, it will almost certainly be one of the following;

S/S heavy tank or hybrid - at least 400 more weaponskill than me, warrior/hero more like 800...shield pretty much useless.

DW light tank - at least 600 more weaponskill than me, block cut in half, insane damage, shield pretty much useless.

SW Stealther - see above (ranger, sb, ns). Due to low scout weaponskill, any decent CS-specced assassin will completely destroy me with the ABS debuff off evade (I'd expect close to 50% evade of all attacks against an Evade 7 class).

Hunter - comedy 2H damage, lag stuns and pet. Since pet negates shield due to small shield mechanics vs multiple attackers, shield is pretty much useless.

I'm only speccing shield so high because;

a) Scouts have no parry or dual-wield option
b) I want Brutalise because Slam is a end-wasting piece of shit.

Hope that makes it clearer...although I'm still not 100% sure which of these templates to use, since I'd probably make a very good PvE blockbot with the first spec (and passable guard for stealth duos, although I rarely seem to block/guard in RvR with my current 42+9+MoB2).

based on your scenarios i fail to see why are you equiping a shield at all... or even why you bother with a melee scout :D


i still think that if you have to chose between +11 shield and +100 hits in template then shield is a better choice.

It's not so much that. Obviously with 65 (50+15) shield in template, I will block...but it's gonna be like 2.5% extra blocking against dual-wielders. That's 1 in 40 swings...I don't think either +100 HPs OR +11 shield is gonna be a lifesaver.

Looking at the last template (thrust one) I'm relying on SL to help avoid PA and then the extra AF (+6% absorb roughly) and the style utility of the thrust line to save my ass (which it probably won't...but that's half the fun!).

I might be able to use a crafted buckler and +shield crafted legendaries as well and just drop the 10AF from Sinovia's. Would be a pain to swap sword AND shield mid-fight though :p

EDIT: and I think I get 10 AF on the leggies...
