Well, I got a trident with something like 16 dps and, for some reason, it is hitting for less then my rapier...can someone explain why please? The 'buffs' on it work, ie, my dex and str improve and it does not say it is too powerful for me, yet it hitting power is zilch. I am no expert on weapons so I am no doubt missing something obvious. These hits have been on mobs and I have not yet tried it on a Middie in Thrid but I can see how this will make any difference. I wouldbe grateful for any advice, hints etc>

There is a cap on weapons, you wont be able to use the weapons full capabilities untill your close to 50(when its a 16dps you will need to be lvl 49)

If i remember correctly you have a BG1 infiltrator, so you most be around lvl 24, at that level you wont be able to utilise anything higher than 9 dps, so you lvl 49 weapon actually only uses 9 dps instead of the full 16 dps.

Ok now you say you damage was lowered when using the new weapon, i can see 2 possible reasons for this.

1. The new weapon is of lower qaulity than the old one. Lets say your old weapon was 99% quality, this means that it only utilises 99% of its dps, and since the max amount of dps around your lvl is 9 that would mean that it had 8.91dps. If the new weapon is 89% quality and it still only uses 9 dps then that would mean that it in reality only has 8.01 and hence does lower damage.

2. the new weapon has a lower spd, this does really lower your damage over time but it lowers your damage per swing. dps stands for damage per second between swings(or something very similar to this) and spd is the delay time between swings, so the higher spd a weapon has the more damage it will do per swing, but it wont swing as often.

I hope all this makes any sense to you.

Thank you Grebneklaf, your first paragraph explains it exactly...I was not aware that ones level capped the damage that a weapon can do...I will ask a guild member to make me a 99 or 100% weapon, orange or red to me and see how that goes. Much obliged.
