Officials say the robot warrior is fast, accurate and will track and attack the enemy with relatively little risk to the lives of US soldiers.

I need your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle. And a can of WD40.

On a more serious note, this does seem like scary stuff. Could this be the first real step towards autonomous armed attack robots?

Nah this is more what is classed a drone than a robot due to the remote control - it looks incredibly similar to the bomb disposal unit so it probably had the user interface modified the most.

The US love drones - they use a number of flying drones already for reconaissance etc. its part of the ethos of minimal exposure of their troops (because video of body bags is bad for morale back home).

I guess you could eventually hack into their control signal if you had the right gear - now that would be messy...

Stairs would be a problem, and im sure its not that fast? One RPG could deal with it in seconds?

I never said that it wasn't, but surely if in 40 years time we have AI controlled robots manning battlefields then historians will look back at this and call it the first step.

As someone already said in 10-30 years there will be AI robots guarding banks/police stations and going to war its only a matter of time before some big brain figures out how to do it.

Then yes i think we could all safely shit our pants everytime Terminator 2 comes on.

Oh I saw them on a military show last year, but it was still mainly in the prototype stage with comp-gen video's of them in action with machine gun cannon's and the new Flak Cannon, wich is the scariest Weapon ever made, from the bio the Flak rips soft material (flesh) to pieces in seconds and burns at the same time. The US marines say its great because they can fire it over walls to get ppl on the other side.

got any links for file info on that flak cannon?

I'm still trying to find info on the lightning cannon riot gun I saw a couple of years back (basically a taser that used a laser to ionise an air path down thich an electric shock could be transmitted, ouch!).

I've got to stack up on cool gear for my bosses secret island HQ ;)
