I was an hour late :D

Typical postman I suppose. Fortunately I was on a delivery with another bloke in a "watch and learn" sense so I basically turned up half an hour before we were supposed to go and deliver, he'd already sorted the round out and I basically had to do fuck all.

Finally get myself a "proper" job, and its piss easy.
Still DJ'ing though, but only when I can be bothered coz DJ'ing where I live is wank.

Just gotta remember to get up in the mornings :/

A friend of mine quit his job as Head of Drama at a local secondary school to become a postman. Said he wanted a stress-free job where he was home by 1pm.

Anyway, what time do you have to get up, Staz?

A very good cycling friend of mine is a posty in sunny Scunny. He seems pretty relaxed most of the time, or is that asleep??;)

Spoke to her tonight, looks like I'm taking her out this Saturday :) Should be amusing.

In the mean time, my delivery round is dead easy and the pay is fab. Part time hours pay the same as a full time job round my neck of the woods.

Mushent grrrumble.

Whats the pay [generally] like as an Annual thing? I could do with some of that :|

OK, get this:

I started the training prog (4 days) on Monday. I got paid this Friday for 28 hours work (contract hours) and any extra hours due to the training prog (9am - 4pm) are added to next weeks wages. I dont work a week in hand and although I'm contracted to work 28 hours a week, if I finish early (5.30-10.10am, which includes a 30 min meal break, but finished at 9.30am today) I get to fuck off home and still get paid until 10.10.

£5.63 an hour, but that goes up by a quid after my trial period.

Did I mention it was fucking easy work??

Is there an age thing?

I can't imagine them being desperate to pay a worryingly-young person, it seems a bit of an old persons job.

I want it :|

How old are you, Kez? Our postman looks about 16. :/

Youngest bloke in my depot is about 18, whilst the oldest is roughly 60 although he looks about 90.

Not an old bastards job at all, as you gotta lug them fucking mail bags around, but that the hardest bit.

I thought Consignia were laying off a shit load of people?

Now you see, being a postman would be good if it didn't involve these disliked activities:

1) Waking up early
2) Going out early
3) Walking/Cycling
4) Lugging big heavy bag around
5) Inability to steal some of the leet goods that people get (and hold odwn your job)

They are, but I dont think it will effect the front line postie, so to speak, more likely the mid to senior management side of things. BTW, its going to revert back to Royal Mail sometime very soon.

On a lighter note; I have finished my run, sat and chatted at the depot for 10 mins, taken a slow walk home, had something to eat, fired up the computer, logged on and written this.
It is 9.53, and I am being paid up to 10.10am.

Good innit. :D

This is very true coz a couple of the local DJ's that have actually managed to get on mailing lists have got keep safe boxes where I work for the promo vinyl they get sent and it is VERY FUCKING TEMPTING BELIEVE ME.

I actually temped for one day as a postie whilst at Uni.

It was dreadful. Got given the shitty housing estates and twas a very hot Summer's day.

Suffice to say I finished my round late. The woman who had an alsation in the garden did not get her post that day and I had a nice cool drink in the pub mid-round. ;)

Me mate was a postie when he left school(the one and only job he's ever had)he couldn't be arsed at xmas to empty the post boxes for two weeks(i think the posties had to do it then), well apparently this is a criminal offence, failing to deliver the queens mail or summat, so he was kinda put on probation, much like if you had been to court and stuff, he used to nick loads of nappies as well, when pampers had a promotion on they used to send out nappies which he used to "deliver" straight to his house then sell em to the local single mums round our way.I wanna be a postman:(

I thought Consignia was the name of the company, of which they wished to develop several communications services, Royal Mail being one. They always were and are using Royal Mail as their brand name for their mail distribution service, as I understand that?

There was a big ho ha in the tabloids when they changed name to Consignia, but the fact was the general Tom Richmond in the street was never to see or hear of the name. As I understand it.

I found out (dont laugh) in my local Jobcentre (I said dont fucking laugh!!!!). I was browsing the new computer system they have, which incidentally is shit, and I saw the advert quite by accident. I also know 3 people that work there and they all told me within 4 days of me finding the advert that there were jobs going, so even without my stroke of luck at the Jobcentre, I still would've found out about it.

Best bet is to find out the deal from someone who works there already. The web addy that Summo stuck up may also be useful (can't comment, not been there).

As for the Consignia thing, Consignia was a name that Royal Mail came up with so that they would have a world, particularly European, identity. Kind of like Marathon becoming Snickers and Opal Fruits becoming StarBurst (wtf?). What their clever image people didnt realise was that Royal Mail is easily recognised throughout most of the world as being the British mail operator and when Consignia surfaced (at great cost) nobody had a fucking clue who they were talking about.

I'm not supposed to actually be telling you this bit btw :p

Whoever said that the General forum was a scary place.

You would struggle to find a more helpful thread than this, anywhere.
