First Impressions

Well, been playing the full game for about 2 hours... quite a few servers up which is nice, and hopefully the BW ones will have some ppl on soon.

Have tried the EA server and a Gamesdomain server so far and infantry warping is insane. I don't know whether it's just some laggy people but it makes a 1on1 impossible with the other guy warping in and out like he has a personal teleporter.

Frame rates aren't as bad as I'd imagined they might be with the huge maps. Tank wars are great fun and will be great in clan games, as I haven't seen any vehicles warping at all.

When I logged into the EA server the first message I saw was someone calling another guy a 'n00b'. Bit ironic as it's the day of release, schools should definately look into expanding the vocabularys of our up and coming generations.

So far I'm impressed (Hello btw), game plays nicely on 56k modem on barrysworld, warping as said earlier is a nightmare on EAB servers.

Don't forget to get ya 1.1 patches

Went into PCWorld to avoid having to drive into City Centre, and saw the coming soon poster for it, but couldn't see the game.

I asked an 'assistant' and was told nah, never heard of it, so i pointed at the poster. He said , 'that says coming soon mate', I said it's released today. He replied, 'Ah well we'll probably have it on Tuesday then'. Fucktard.

So I went into Game and bought it.

Everything's so big! I don't know my way around. My poota judders when there's lots of peeps on the screen (didn't do that in the demo).

What was once familiar and comfortable is now strange and frightening.

Well I'm not sure if its me but some of those maps feel a bit roapy.

I haven't played them all, but most of them.

Omaha, felt wrong, the ship shouldn't be able to move, the beach is way to narrow, it should have looked similar to MOHAAs version

A lot of the other maps I feel need many more players. When I was playing it was 5 tanks and two jeeps against 7 men you were too out numbered

I also feel it a little 'cheap' that there are so many prefabs used over and over like the Tank Repair Bay and the Hospital ward with the loading bay. and the various bunkers.

Most of the maps though look pretty good with a few (25+) more players and some team play it will be pretty swell

Played a few maps tonight. Iwo Jima is excellent - damn hard to take the last Jap base though! Allies get slaughtered and the Axis breaks back out again...

On the flip-side Kursk is unplayable for me - I have a Radeon-based card and despite turning gamma up to max I can't see a damn thing

All in all it's about what I expected. It froze up for 5-10 seconds on one of the BW servers earlier tonight but after two people left it was reasonably OK. I reckon this game could use a bit of tweaking with the netcode - specifically for people suffering PL so that it doesn't screw other peeps up.

Still damn good fun though - even if I do suck at the game

I got those freeze-ups too. I didn't think anyone else was affected tho cos when I went to walk out of my hiding place there were about 3 tanks waiting for me.

I hope one day they revamp the whole infantry combat system to make it feel a bit more solid. Compare running around with the BAR in DoD to the BAR in BF1942. In DoD it feels like you've got a solid weapon with nasty recoil and a meaty sound... bf1942 it feels like a toothpick in comparison.

The freeze-ups happened to me quite early on in the evening. Then 2 or 3 peeps left and it was fine. Joined a game later on that had 30 people playing and that was fine too so all I can think is that one of the people who left had PL or something. Shame if that screws other people up though.

I think I'll give up being a scout for a while though cos no bugger ever responds to your request for artillery support

Is anyone having trouble getting on the BW servers? I just get the connecting bar, and then it freezes halfway through. The only way to get out again is to kill BF.

i went and bought it today. i think its pretty damn good because you are trusting your self, in say the pilot or the guy driving the tank, adds alot to the game, something you dont quite feel when playing RTCW etc.
