Firewall

Im currently using XP Firewall and have been told is very memory hogging, ive reinstalled gfx drivers and the performance seems a little better.

As i only have 512 ram i want to try another firewall, can anyone recomend a firewall that works with camalot that other people use. ( freeware preferably ;-))

ZoneAlarm is good - can be abit noisy at first, but once you've got the various programs their access through it, you won't hear from it if you don't want to. Make sure you download the free edition and not the free trial, otherwise it will change in 30 days.

Yep, have to agree with that. Had no end of problems caused from ZA as well.

Don't know about the other Firewall, but ZoneAlarm will pop up a message telling you a program is trying to access the internet. It's literally a case of "Yes, access the internet" or "No, get lost!" Completely painless

Before advising on firewalls, do your homework, Sygate is not the most reliable of the software ones out there, see articles like http://www.pcflank.com/art21.htm before passing judgement on your inabilities to use another brand.

But beware looking at some so called indepandant tests http://www.secureie.com/c/001/firewallcomparison2004/firewallcomparison_02.asp?source=gtuk&keyword=compare%20firewalls which looks great, but can also be memory hungry with the defaults all on.

As for ZA, been using it for 2 years now, no complaints, and great etch support if yo get get troubles. Shop around and try and see a demo of the different ones and see how u get on before you buy.

I use zonealarm myself there is a setting to stop all the pop-up windows that you will need to switch off whenever someone pings you otherwise it will drop you out of game but just play with the settings its easy enough.
