I've just lost an anniversary card down the back of my mantelpiece. Anyone know if this is likely to cause a problem (fire?) ?

You should be more worried about your missus setting you on fire for losing such an important artefact.

Wooden mantelpiece surrounding a marble-backed gas fire?

Chances are it will be stuck behind the marble (or fake marble) back piece, but if it is on the fire then it'll only have fallen onto the steel case which surrounds the back of the fire.

If you can easily unscrew the mantlepiece, it'll be easy to rescue. If its all plastered in, I wouldn't worry about it. Cardboard isn't set ablaze by a hot surface. Presumably there is no wallpaper behind the fire?

No wallpaper at all. Hate the stuff.

I'll check the rest...

My dad gave me some great advice as a kid.

Don't look at the mantlepeice when you are poking the fire.

It has served me well on 'Pull a pig night'! :p
