I remember once when I was at school the bell went off 3 times in one week

Really? When I was at school it usually went off seven or eight times a day! Usually to signify a transitional period - break to lesson, lesson to lunch, and so on.

I guess you went to a pikey school where bell-ringing was reserved for when the king was on the wireless.

I remember sitting in the open plan office at a company I worked for in Reading working on a delphi console app for a handheld pc, contemplating going for a cig, when all of a sudden a car crashes through the side of the building

yeha i remember at my old middle school in Oklahoma when we had bout 3 fire drills for 4 weeks straight b/c our school was too poor to tell us it was a bomb threat until we got outside.
