Finished yet?

After finally completing Deus Ex for the first time, it struck me that there's not been many PC games recently (in the last 4/5 years or so) that I've actually played through to completion.

How many of you play games you buy to their end? Do you play all of them until they're done (unless it's an open ended game like Sim City et al), or just a few? Have you completed ANY game ever?

Recently (again over the last 4/5 years), I've only completed:

Deus Ex
Drakan
Half Life
Elite Force
Serious Sam
Serious Sam 2
Jedi Knight 2
RtCW

So mainly FPSs then.

But I've had games installed for ages, meaning to finish them.

Uncompleted games (that I intend to finish at some point):

Baldurs Gate & TotSC
Baldurs Gate 2 & ToB
System Shock 2
Planescape: Torment
Project IGI
NOLF
Undying
MOH:AA
Diablo 2 & LoD
Dungeon Siege

As it is I've just re-installed SS2 (I couldn't play it while on Win2K, as it wouldn't install), as I'm going to have a bash at finishing that.

Hmmm.
You've completed Deus Ex with all of the endings then, Sarrykins?

It depends on the game really, some I want to finish, some I don't. It depends on how envolving it is.

Completed:

- Deus Ex (Three times, with all endings. :p)
- Unreal (Twice)
- Unreal Mission Pack
- Serious Sam
- RtCW
- Unreal Tournament/Quake 3 (Don't really count I guess)
- Rogue Spear

Those are all the PC titles I can think of that I've completed. Bit of an FPS nut, really. Hadn't noticed that before. ;)

Aye, all 4. :)

(You have to cheat to get the 4th "ending" though)

You don't have to replay the entire game to get the 3 normal endings though, because up until the point where you finally complete one set of objectives for any one of the endings, you can pick any ending you like. I got all 3 endings today.

Oh aye, of course. The first time I got to it, I just couldn't decide. It was far too tough.... Brings up a lot of issues, and it depends on the person YOU are as to how the game ends, which is pretty damn leet. That's provided you settle for one.

Genuinely is still the best single player game I've ever played, it's so involving. The first time I hit the first big plot twist, I shiver ran through my body and I jumped around on IRC for ages afterwards. No other game has ever had an effect like that on me. Cannot wait for DX2, it's already looking very nice.

Ahh,Doom 2, Quake , Quake 2, Q2 missions packs, Quake 3.
No, I never finished UT, Half life, RtCW, or a few others. I will finish Op Flash though, its the best SP game Ive seen in years, but I guess Im just a bit of a MP type person at the end of the day. I played Q2 Xatrix on the same server for well over a year ffs .... just about every day. Omg, where has my life gone ??? :D

The **only** game I have completed in the last 3 years is Medal of Honour.

Before that it was Metal Gear Solid on PS1.

I buy shitloads of games and just give up after a while. - didn't even get off the second island on Black or White.

I am determined to finish all the levels on Super Monkeyball though.

hmm, i've completed quite a few. the ones I almost always finish are fps games.

Off the top of my head: all the command and conquers (not including mission packs), mgs, freespace 1 (not 2, should start playing that again), most of the lucasarts adventures they're top .. and loads more that I can't be arsed to mention :)

Some I need to pick up again are deus ex (I got very near the end, but had no arms, no legs, and no medikits :) ) op flashpoint, forgot where I left that off, res evil 3 (not even started that properly) and system shock 2 (again not started properly.. too many keys to bind!!)

You do realise how incredibly hard it gets? I've only known one person to complete the game, and he's an unhealthily good console gamer. :D

I complete Quake whenever I'm bored and have 40 minutes to spare. Same goes for Quake2 (only in about twice that time).

I don't have the attention span to finish most games. GTA3 on the PS is the exception though.

Carmageddon TDR 2000

Not a great deal here either, especially on the FPS front. Eeek I don't think I've ever completed one of them.

Here goes anyway:

Diablo 2
Civ 2
Alpha Centauri (all conditions apart from economic)
Civ 3
Tie Fighter

My god that's a truly pitiful list :(

What on earth is the point of playing a game with cheats ??

W

so you can finish it and see the excellent end-of-game screens, like in MoH, and HL.

Quake 2
Quake 3 (?)
Unreal
Unreal Mission Pack

MOHAA
RTCW

RTS
===

Hmmm. You've got me thinking now....

I'm trying to remember which ones I finished legitimately and which ones I cheated on just cos it got too hard... heh.

Most recently I can remember completing:

Max Payne,
RTCW,
erm....

My brain hurts. I play so much crap for 5 mins at a time I have trouble remembering what I played and what I dumped...

In the old days when I was a cheapskate and mostly played demos cos PC games were nearly 50 quid a go, I completed Doom, quake and a few others.

Most of my time is taken up by multiplayer games for the past few years. First it was Aq2 and then it was UO (Ultima Online) and more recently it's been DAOC but for the last few days I've been playing GTA3 (which ROCKS!!!) and Settlers2 cos I picked it up for a quid at a boot fair on Sunday. :)

TBH I tend to play most of my games online thus never complete that many offline although I've been trying to complete them recently.

I completed the quake 2 and 3 games, but then discovered online gaming and nevr bother now. Q2 CTF was great, but now its CS all the way, I was totally bored with HL until a m8 showed me CS.

I usually play the single player mode to the end, then I play the multiplayer. Just because it gets you used to the controls and physics of the game.

Completed:
HL + Opp Forces
MOHAA
IGI
RTCW
MS Combat FS
SOF
Currently playing (to the end) JK2

I have other games but they bored me.

This is probably a bit sad, but the only games I ever finished was the entire Dizzy series on the Commodore Amiga.

Oh and Full Throttle.

The only game I think I've ever completeted was Count Duckula on the Spectrum, and that's only because If you get pissed off and hit the keyboard the game turned into Revenge Of The Banana Milk, and all the doors became unlocked.

I'm so terrible at games; for example, how many of you knew there was actually a Game Over possibility in Black and White?

Yeah there is, and one of two endings (Either kill your pet and ascend to Godhood or not). But most people (including me) got pissed off with it after a while and never got anywhere near the end. It was a huge disappointment tbh, as it concentrated on micro-managing the villagers too much.
