Finding it really hard to lvl

My character on Hibernia is a lvl 12 Eldritch specialising in void, but right now I’m finding it almost impossible to lvl, this is what normally happens. I log on, spend half an hour trying to find a group, join a group gain maybe 3 bubbles before everybody has to leave, then solo a bit and normally loose all my 3 bubbles, even though I’m hunting greens and blues which offer pitiful xp anyway. I’ve heard from other players that these levels are hard but this is getting boring, and all my friends from other who have other classes lvl faster than me and I can’t group with them anymore.

Also the difficulty of the mobs seem to be inconsistent, I can steadily kill blue—until suddenly my spells seem to reduce the amount of damage they are doing and I get killed, loosing like an hours of xp. At this point I post /q and pace my room muttering about how god damm awful those wolfs are, hideous brutes.

So I’ve started a druid alt which is more fun because I never have any problems grouping and soloing is much better. But I don’t want to abandon my eldritch character when I’ve put so much effort into it, I was thinking of joining a guild or perhaps bribing somebody to help me get past these difficult levels. Anybody else have this problem or am I just a bit crap?

Know the feeling and you were just unlucky with the bantams eventually the lag and discon wiped us all out. Unfortunately wasn't great as you had to pull as we don't get a bow till 15 (Margin the hero). I can use my mentalist or bard to help you get past the monotonous levels post your druids name and Ill msg you when Im on so we can get your eld some xp.

The lack of groups is a pain as elds are frowned upon nearly as much as shades and rangers, an alt like you have done will help its good to play "Mr popular" for a bit.

Ill not be on this evening but will catch you Thursday hopefully.

See you in Hib :)

PS kill tasks are always a good option for you ranged guys as if it goes pair shaped you just run, rinse and repeat.

for sure

That night we were playing my client crashed and I decided to just go do something else :) but I did appreciate the grouping that night it was the lag that got us all, still it was fun. I think I gained four bubbles that night but have since lost them all, mostly through soloing. I might try some of those kill tasks though.

Yeah I found Lvl 12 Hard too

Untill I found a nice little spot just north of tir na nog
leave by the north entrance, bind at the stone
& if you die an healer is just inside tir na in the first house, upstairs.
Moss sherie I think + Large Eirebugs?????
(could have been when i was lvl 13 my memorys not that good)
BOLT, BOLT, DD, DD = Dead criter before they get to you
particulary the Bugs.
I was stuck on same lvls for ages untill I found this spot then lvled pretty quick in the same area, even though im more of a roleplayer & kept wondering off on quests every now & then.

hope this info helps you

I think I mainly did kill tasks at this level but also found the group of Moss Sheeries east of MM past the curms were pretty good at about lvl 12. Just don't hit any standing close to a club moss else you'll get a nice free ride back to your nearest bindstone......also don't even think of running away from them just stay to the death and hope....you may get lucky at the last instant.

Kill tasks :

1). Meara (The large green firbolg in mag Mell)
2). The lord inside that mag mell building.
3). The sentinal at the guard tower, in Mag mell.
4). The guard in Mbeo next to the well.
5). The guard next the well in Ardee
6). The guard inside the Healers house in Mbeo.

Go to one of these at every level and one of them will give a kill task.

The order of kill taks goes like this :

(This isn't the exact order, it's just to give you an idea)

Level 5 = Meara
Level 6 = Mbeo Well
Level 7 = Ardee well
Level 8 = Healers house
Level 9 = Meara
Level 10 = Mbeo well
Level 11 = Ardee well
Level 12 = Healers house
Level 13 = Meara
Level 14 = Mbeo well
Level 15 = Ardee well
Level 16 = Healers house
Level 17 = Meara
Level 18 = Mbeo well
Level 19 = Ardee well
Level 20 = Healers house

As you can see, they repeat every 4th level.

I'm not sure but I think the exact order for me is:

Meara
Lord in Mag Mell
Sentinal in Mag mell
Mbeo Well
(and repeat)

Works for me every time.... :)

That’s very useful information I’m certain it will help me some. Is their a way you can cast two bolts one after another, because when I try it tells me I have to wait 6 seconds before I can cast it again.

You have 2 bolts no? One is in your void list and the other is in your void specialist list.

You can cast these 2 and get a DD in before the mobs gets near you.

Something else (I didnt know till somebody ingame told me when I was new to spellcasting).

If you hold down the button you have set up for your second bolt while you are still casting your first you get to shoot your second in the fastest possible time, then obviously you hold down button for DD. same goes for all spells!

You might know this already, but its always worth mentioning incase some newbie reads this thread.

Ok this is useful, I don’t know this stuff,

I send off my first bolt, then hold down the button of my next spell so it casts as soon as it can.

When casting my next spell hold the button down until its fully cast I get DD, is that double damage?

DD is direct damage( the damage spells that aren't bolts.

Elds should find it pretty easy to solo, first of all find a nice blue/yellow mob and move as far away as possible.

To do this getyour bolt spell and press it down, then move back (interrupting the cast) until it says out of range, then takea couple of steps forwards.

Then shoot your bolt No.1,, after this has started casting start spamming the bolt no.2 key ( I prefer pressing it repeatedly rather than holding it down, this generates slightly fewer messages, so youhave achance of seeing if the first one hit or not - if not you might want to just turn and run there and then :))
after this starts casting, find your dd spell button and start spamming that until the monster is dead. If it gets onto you hit quickcast and then spam your dd key again.

If it is very nearly dead then press f6 and whack it with your staff, if not, turn and press sprint and run.

At level 12 your 2 bolt spells are called "Void Cleave" and "Abrogation Bolt", and your dd spell is called "Major Ethereal Blast" as far as I can tell.

Yeah
basically if your a solo void eldritch & the mob gets into combat with you before its lower than 20% life RUN !!!!!

Um ..... may I add RUN the oposite direction from other MOBS  (speaking from past bad experience)

One more advice: don't group. Solo to 30 or over. Groups below this always have less experienced player(s) making grouping slow, a pain in the ass or losing exp instead of getting it. Around level 30 people start learning their role in group and what to do and what not to do (what's that 'dont hit the mezzed' supposed to mean?!?).

Not strictly true a lot of low levels tend to be alts of high level mains and although maybe not as ground in as there main chars they know the score, but you can usually tell within your first few encounters whether or not you got a newb char but even then let them know what they're doing wrong we all had "L plates" at one point.

Get a bad group and you will waste a couple of hours, get out with less experience than you had when you started, and get very frustrated with the game.

Get a good group and everyone in it will probably ding after an hour ot two.

Unfortunately Mythic haven't figured out how to visually distinguish the good groups from the bad groups... ideally there would be a green G floating over the heads of the good ones and a red B over the heads of the bad ones...

Good groups are all about leadership, i learned some valuable lessons from working with inexperienced groups who had a good leader who knew where to hunt and how to best use the strengths of the group.

I think saying that you shouldn’t work in a group until lvl 30 is kind of missing the point of DAOC the currently existing strategies are only there because somebody right at the start made those mistakes.

If I do find myself in a group who with people who are doing things that are liable to loose me xp I politely tell them what I think would be best, if they ignore my advice then they are liable to enrage the mothface and FEW very few have survived invoking his wrath! (/g I’m going to solo for a while)

I have 2 eldritches, a lvl 12 mana eld who i group with and a lvl 31 void eld who (apart from 1 brief lapse at lvl 15) has solo'd all the way.

If you find the right mobs, for a void eld those weak to cold are ideal, soloing should not be a problem. Yes I die but have never had any problem gaining lvls.

A really good soloing guide for elds can be found on the eld forums of www.mypetmage.com
