I'm in the process of writing my dissertation and am in need of a quote for it. I'm sure I've heard it before, it goes something like 'It is in times of crisis that we learn most about ourselves'. Does anyone know its source or of the existence of any other quotes that confer essentially the same meaning?

Thanks in advance!

You're doing it wrong. You find quotes first then write around them. Amateur ;)

No, you copy someone else's dissertation and change every 9th word.

Never, I will bend and break all my references free of their inconvenient context to suit my hypothesis. They will not deny me my 1st!

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

The greater the difficulty the more glory in surmounting it. Skillful pilots gain their reputation from storms and tempests.
Epictetus.

What doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

Well, he chose to stand on a balcony and look how that ended up.

I came to kick ass and chew bubblegum. And I'm all out of moviequotes.

"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass...and I'm all out of bubblegum."- from the John Carpenter 80's film They Live which he wrote and directed.
