Final fantasy

Ok so which is your favourite final fantasy games of them all?

For me it'd have to be 7 without a doubt, fantasic plot and one of the better character building systems. Although I haven't played 1,2,3,4 or 5 but I'd have to say 9 was the worst, the strory fell apart, the battles and the character building system was terrible and the character's special "limit breaks" were pointless.

hates the lot of them. Sorry.

Plus when I was at uni a lad in my house found out I had FF7 for my pc. He started playing at about 8:30am when I left for uni. I returned at about 4pm to see him still not dressed sitting playing (wrapped in a towel no less). He stayed there whilst the rest of us had dinner, then went clubbing. Got back about 3:30am. Still there. I passed out. Woke up about 10am, he was STILL sitting.
At that point I threw him out and made a promice to myself I'd never play a FF game.

FF VII is my most favouritest game ever. It has wonderful hidden intricacies which i find utterly intriguing and thought provoking. A little research can tell you all sorts of things the designers had put in; Lots of references to religious and mythical stories.

VIII is a bit of a flawed masterpiece, trying to be too much at once, with a fundamentally-flawed battle system which was just plain boring, and a story which was hardly in the same league as VII. Still i played it to completion more than once, and for that i say it's worthy, but the worst of the PS era.

IX was enjoyable up untill the final battle. An end game boss which came out of nowhere, and serious plot elements left right 'till the end. Other than that, it was quite similar to VII and at the same time, returned to the roots of the series. This and VIII though technologically superior to VII were simply inferior in terms of character development, plot twists and general involvement.

The remakes of FF I and II, through to IV and VI were okay. Having only given some time to VI, i have to say that they are neither exceptional, nor poor. However I was a bit basic, a battle system typical of the eighties and a pretty boring storyline marks it out as my least favourite.

X was a nice change, absoulutely astounding graphics, sound and general artistry was enough to block out the really piss poor voice acting. A decent disaster story and a nice father-son relationship with Tidus and Jecht was sufficient to keep me involved, along with arguably underdeveloped side characters.

Btw, Cloud is my favourite character.

Im not the only one then. FFVII has possibly the best plot and characters of any game, the involvement with the characters and the clever revelations throughout the game meant that a lot of the time I found myself playing only to advance the plot, and as everybody knows this means that in FF world you won't get past the later bosses. An excellent good guy turned bad which is always the best way to have a bad guy and the relationship between Cloud and tifa. Its possible to say that the plot was better than most hollywood blockbusters. I've played it through so many times that I have 2 saved games where I can quite safely take on sephiroth without worrying at all, having found the most powerful (and possibly secret) materia combination of all time. I just love to play through the first disc especially midgar.
And admit it, how many of you cried when Aeris died.

FFVIII was ok to start with, I liked the school idea and the cut scenes were like no other at that time. The battle system was a little crap but workable however the GFs were crap and the fact that the monsters leveled up with you really took away the fun of finding an enemy that gave you trouble early on and later on in the game kicking its ass. The plot was very good to begin with, but I got the impression that the writers got a bit bored halfway and just rushed through, also there are a few plot holes that I hoped would be revealed at the end but weren't. The bad guy(s) were rubbish and didn't seem anywhere near as good as sephiroth but it wasn't the worst of them all.

FFIX was a disaster but didn't seem it at first. I really had high hopes for it but was let down badly. No wonder it wasn't hyped up. The plot showed signs of promise but quickly lost that about halfway through the first disc. But mostly it was the battle system that let it down, the characters were heavily restricted in what they could and couldn't do and even having 4 on at a time didn't help, I've yet to finish this game as I can't seem to find anywhere to level up fast enough and at the current rate it'd take about another 20 hours of gameplay that FFVII would deserve more unless anbody can help me find some easy to defeat but rich in exp monsters.

FFVI (this is in the order that I have played them) Is only let down by its age, the poor graphics, sounds and lack of cut scenes are really a downer but still its better than IX with reguards to plot and combat system. I'm only about a quarter of the way through but I'm enjoying the character developments and plot twists

FFX is the one Im playing now, it is quite enjoyable but the plot is advancing slowly. Also you don't get the free roaming that you could in all the other games, you're constantly on that bloody journey and never out in the field finding sercret locations and monsters, or returning to a previous village to get something you couldn't afford earlier. I do like the sphere grid system, but I'd still prefer it if your character's HP, MP, strength went up with a level up but I suppose it wouldn't be the same. And the way that you can swap characters throughout the battle is ingenious and should have been part of FF fromt he start. I also like the fact that you can customise each character properly and not in the gay way that the other games promised you you could, for example I now have Kimahri on Auron's sphere grid so that he will be stronger and have more health but I could have given him more magic by sticking him on Lulu's sphere grid. But more powerful Aeons required please.

And beleive it or not I can't seem to get into any other RPGs.

8 & 9 were best, but why play FF when you've the likes of Grandia/Suikoden/Lunar/Legend of Legaia etc.

I'm not to great with roman numerals. Is that 9? :p

If so then OMFG! it rocks.
Cool cartoony graphics, fun characters, no hardcore plot, comedy. VIVI!

Why is everyone acting like the series started on VII?

IV, V and VI were all better!

Plus, Skies Of Arcadia > All Final Fantasy Games.

Easily the best final fantasy-type RPG I've ever played.

I don't think they are acting like the series began at VII.

It's just that the general concensus is that VII has been the most involving,

I've only played FF VII and VIII.

VIII I can't say much about as I've never been able to get into it. I think I've managed to get all the way to the second disc before getting bored and leaving it for something else though.

VII is brilliant. I loved almost the entire game. I spent loads of time exploring everything, everywhere (and defeating everything, everywhere). The end fight was so dissapointing though. I was expecting a long, tough battle against Sephiroth, with a real chance of death at every turn. Instead I walked in, hit him with a single limit break and watched in disbelief as he fell over and died.

If I'd known he was so weak I would've helped the poor blighter :(

Sephiroth is the greatest bad-guy ever to appear in a game (imo of course), and I would be inclined to agree with everyone that FF7 is the best of the series, although, number 8 wasn't as bad as everyone made out.

The story, for me, was excellent. Seifer doing the Sorceress's bidding, becoming her slave, Ultimecia controling Edea and Rinoa from the future, Ellone using her powers to take people to the future, time compression etc. I thought it was VERY good (granted not as good as FF7, but without that game clouding it, i believe it to be very good.)
Also, i thought the GF system to be quite good, i did find the magic system to be a bit shite. I thought FF7 has the best magic system of a game EVER. Levelling up your chars to get the next powerful magic, it was fantastic. I do agree the enemy's levelling up at the same time as the characters was the shittest thing ever.

FF9, for me, was fantastic, but i did only get to the end of disk 3, then my PS broke, and this was a m8s game so he's had it back (boohoo), but i did find the characters to be great (ViVi was so great), and the storyline was amazing.
The cut-scene's were also great, my favourite been Kuja? opening his ship in the sky with the laser thing and destroying the city, and also getting on his white horse after leaving the lifa tree? 9sorry if im wrong, it was a while ago!

For me, Final Fantasy is a superb series of games. they are so in-depth, and thought provoking. I like the feeling that you start off with a small-time person, who doesn't know he will decide the fate of the world, and the fact they're involved in something much much bigger, they just don't know it. (For example, when AVALANCHE is blowing up the reactor in midgar, they don't realise they will battle to save the world from a meteor using the most powerful white magic...)

I could write for hours about the feeling i get from these game, but it's hard to put into words for me. :'(

I agree, Final Fantasy 7 Is easily the best outa the series, it has one of the greatest video game stories ever imo, and everything in it from materia to battles to just wandering around is so easy to use.
Altho for me Final Fantasy X comes a close second, I love the story line, the altered battle sequence and ability to swap fighters, I even didn't mind not being able to visit anywhere i wanted till near the end of the game. Also the graphics and cutscenes were amazing. X-2 should build on that and turn out to be one of the best Final Fantasys yet.

Found 9 v. boring (combat wise)

been ages since i played ff1-6 so i rememeber This "<->" much about em.

7 was good, looked great and had a story line that kept me hooked for a good few months, first time around it took ages to complete.

8 was a really good one to play, whole different feel and things were strategic for junctioning magics and such. (remembers have 5000HP and 200 str at lvl 20).

9 was odd to say the least, gona from the new age sorta theme back to the old ways with black mages and kngihts. Vivi ruled! :D

10 was excellent, voices, lush graphics and i must say an excellent storyline and lots of side quests, disappointing about the world map though, i feel the world map is an intergral part of the FF games and it wasnt optained until the last bit of the game and it wasnt free roaming.

I found them incredibly linear and dull as a result. Felt like I was playing Dragon's Lair or Space Ace at times there's that little choice.
